I thought it would have taken me a lot before I would be able to try the Magic Leap One , but luckily this has not been the case. But while we were great on the technical side, we weren’t good at doing business and marketing (I only started my blog in summer 2016 ), so in 2017 we closed the curtain on our crazy adventure.

This comes alongside an alleged partnership with Samsung that would see the development of a wholly new consumer AR device that is rumored to tether to a Samsung smartphone. Making an AR headset accessible enough for consumers is a vastly different challenge to producing higher cost enterprise headsets— just ask Magic Leap.

To its credit, the company had the foresight to release HoloLens in 2016, a full two years before unicorn startup Magic Leap could get its first standalone AR headset out the door. Three years later it released HoloLens 2, which directly competes today against Magic Leap Two.

I’ve been a big fan of the cute little Samsung Gear 360 camera since its first unveiling in the spring of 2016, and always recommend it to people inquiring about the best consumer-friendly 360 cameras out there. The cost is lower than the 2016 version with a pricetag of $229 and you can record in up to 4K resolution.

The numbers are good if we compare the Quest to other VR headsets (probably the Rift has sold 1M units since 2016… so 400,000 units in few months is a good number), but are bad in the grand scheme of things : the Nintendo Switch, which Oculus compares the Quest to, has sold over 36M consoles since launch.
