Shuhei Yoshida (aka ‘Shu’) has left Sony, closing a near 32-year chapter of his life with the company. Yoshida announced he was leaving Sony back in November, setting his retirement date for January 15th, 2025. “And when I hit 30 years, I was thinking, hmm, it may be about time for me to move on. .”

Despite the growing age of PlayStation VR, Sony has continued to effectively market and sell the headset, leading to steady sales which have now reached 5 million units total, the company has announced. We’ve seen prototypes from Oculus with Santa Cruz and Intel’s Project Alloy-powered devices and now Sony is dipping their toes into the inside-out tracking race. Today we caught wind of a new Utility Patent Application from Sony Interactive Entertainment that would allow for inside-out tracking of interactive VR devices.
When it comes to Google searches, “HTC Vive” has recently matched “Oculus Rift” and may be continuing to rise. That said, a powerful showing at E3 2016 this year showed a big spike for the term which has clearly led to an increase in search volume on the other side of that spike.
