Microsoft’s flagship social VR platform brings its unique brand of events to the Quest. When I bought my HTC Vive in 2017, I already had a list of games and experiences I wanted to try first. AltspaceVR, acquired by Microsoft in October 2017, has a been a beloved mainstay of the social VR space since its launch in 2015.

Though the company initially proclaimed that the Xbox One X (formerly known as ‘Project Scorpio’) would feature VR support, at E3 this week Microsoft is distancing itself from that commitment. Now however it seems that Microsoft is waning in their support of VR on Xbox One X, or at least de-emphasizing it for the time being.

At least from the outside, it appears Microsoft isn’t actively competing for a seat at the XR table, which is fairly odd coming from a company that pioneered enterprise AR while simultaneously wrangling some of its top OEM partners to make a fleet of PC VR headsets for consumers in 2017. Coatsink , the studio behind VR titles A Night Sky (2017) and Augmented Empire (2017), announced they’re bringing their first mobile VR title, Esper (2015), to PlayStation VR, Oculus Go and Xiaomi Mi on June 29th.
