Sony Corporation announced today that it will invest $250 million in Epic Games, the company well known for its hit game Fortnite and the Unreal Engine game engine that powers it. Unreal Engine is the second most popular game engine for building VR content, and has powered PSVR games like Farpoint , Moss ,and Firewall: Zero Hour.

Epic Games, the creators of Unreal Engine, said it would consider building a launch title for Sony’s “next VR platform” during negotiations about Fortnite cross-play on PlayStation in 2018. And though Epic hasn’t made any VR games since then, it seems that in 2018 it was still ready and willing.

One of my favorite games of all times is Unreal Tournament because I just love to shoot and kill without thinking too much… or better, without thinking AT ALL. Playing with it is great, it is a bit like playing Unreal Tournament. Shows the long term vision of this company. Space Junkies is a great VR action game.

No wait, is 2017… or maybe 2018, ah no, VR is dead… in 2019 there is the Quest, so VR will be mainstream! The new Unreal Engine 5 lets you import graphical assets of whatever quality and they get downgraded on the fly on the target platform, depending on its horsepower. The Sony game was nominated for four DICE Awards this year, but failed to take home any of them. Created by Fable and Oculus and powered by Unreal Engine, the film has been to Tribeca, the Chicago Film Festival and the Emmys. ASTRO BOT Rescue Mission has experience as a runner-up. VR in Healthcare.

The Firewall Ultra demo showcased a more detailed vision of fast-paced tactical team battles compared with its 2018 predecessor, Firewall Zero Hour. While Sony’s PSVR 2 headset doesn’t have the same range or brightness attributes as Meta’s demo from last year, Sony’s headset is also VR’s first consumer HDR head-mounted display.
