This week in XR hasn’t had any explosive news, but it was interesting nonetheless: in particular we had cool info on AR glasses, with some news from Kura, Lynx, and Samsung. Samsung AR glasses concept has been leaked. Popular Twitter leaker WalkingCat has leaked two trailer videos about two AR glasses by Samsung.

In February 2021, ARCore debuted for developers and introduced AR Foundation, which opened the platform up across Android devices. Google now supports numerous Android smartphones such as Asus, Lenovo, LG, Moto, Motorola, OnePlus, Samsung, Sony, Vivo, Infinix, Tecno, Sharp, and Xiaomi.

Multiple reports seem to confirm that Oculus is actually starting the production of a new Oculus Quest headset, with an expected release date in 2021. While we have not even started using 5G, companies like Samsung (and Nokia) are already thinking about the next-generation 6G that could enable holograms and smart twins.

Facebook could sell all its devices undercost now, subsidizing the cost of the hardware with software and data collection, so that to compete with brands like Samsung and XiaoMi. The most viral news of the week has for sure been the one about MetaHuman Creator, a new software for Unreal Engine. Epic Games presents MetaHuman Creator.

Apple glasses are coming in 2021–2022 and they are incredibly sleek. He says that Apple AR glasses will come in 2021 and that he has seen them. Unreal Engine 5 may change the rules of game development. Out of nowhere, Epic Games has teased the next version of Unreal Engine, Unreal Engine 5, due to be released in 2021.
