I see 2020 as a good year of consolidation, where VR will grow linearly before the expected explosion around 2022. In the end, I still believe in the old predictions of Unity CEO John Riccitiello: Look at this graph shown by Mr. Riccitiello in 2017: the purple line is the one of the analysts, while the white one is the one forecasted by him.
This has been a pretty interesting week for me, having spoken at XR Safety Week and Stereopsia, and having published two cool articles about creating innovative SteamVR controllers and using Application SpaceWarp in Unity to almost double the framerate of your application. Top news of the week (Image by Android Authority) Google is adding XR support to Play Store in preparation for the launch of the Samsung headset A report from Android Authority highlights that XR support is being added to the Google Play Store. Someone in the community already built a Unity plugin for it. It was incredibly reliable.
We are at the same level of Vive Focus or Vive Pro… probably the display is the same made by Samsung. This is the same chip of the Samsung S8 and it is not the latest available for VR: Qualcomm has already released the 845 VR reference design. As always in January I like to play the speculation game and make my personal predictions for augmented and virtual reality for the new year (2022, in this case). This is still the situation in this first part of 2022. I think that in a good part of 2022 we will just see the VR market growing because of the huge growth of the Quest 2.
