Magic Leap 1, the AR headset that helped the Plantation, Florida-based startup attract over three billion dollars in funding, will be completely defunct by late next year. The company announced this week that Magic Leap 1’s cloud services are due to be shut off on December 31st, 2024.

Waiting until now would mean that next VR game by Valve would come out in 2024–2025… do you really think they don’t want to make the ecosystem to grow now? If you’re interested in these devices, have a look at Amazon and Oculus websites. Valve says that it was waiting to see the reception of Alyx before developing other games.

They had some hype a few years ago, also because Magic Leap, in the beginning, hinted at the fact that it would have used them, but then they revealed themselves to be too unpractical for AR. The 2024 edition will happen again in Rotterdam (Netherlands) from the 4th to the 6th of December 2024.

Another leak regarded the release date: an Amazon listing put the availability date of the Quest 3 starting from October, 10th. This week, Microsoft announced that MRTK will migrate to an independent GitHub account and that the project will be supported by a consortium including Microsoft, Magic Leap, and Qualcomm.
