Google unveiled its Android XR operating system today, which is coming first to the newly revealed Samsung mixed reality headset, “Project Moohan,” slated for consumer release in 2025. It is however a good bet though, considering Unreal Engine has supported OpenXR for a number of years now.

As the XR shark tank grows with AndriodXR, Samsung’s Moohan, and other competitive players entering the immersive space race, the Quest innovator and the general XR industry are looking to retain their foothold on the lucrative market. After so much time teasing it, Google has finally announced Android XR, the version of Android for XR devices, and gave hands-on demos of the headset it is building with Samsung and Qualcomm. There is no information on the price (the latest rumor talked about $2000 circa), and availability will be sometime in 2025.
