HTC has released a YouTube video that hints at the impending release of a ‘game-changing’ Vive headset. The Taiwanese consumer electronics company ‘HTC’ posted the video titled ‘HTC VIVE: A Vision for You’ on its company YouTube channel, with what appears to be a silhouette of a new headset at the end of the video.

This includes all the Windows MR headsets from Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Samsung, including HP's Reverb G2 , released in 2020. The death of Windows MR headsets comes on the same week Microsoft revealed that HoloLens 2 production has ended , and that software support for the AR headset will end after 2027.

Anyway, with the end of the life of Quest 2, this cycle finished and a new one started with Quest 3, Apple Vision Pro, Google and Samsung announcing their own headset, and other companies chasing them (e.g. with Xiaomi, Oppo, Samsung, etc…) to convince hardware manufacturers to create headsets powered by Android XR.

Chinese manufacturers BOE and SeeYA may provide cheaper displays in higher quantities than Sony is doing now, while Samsung may be supplying the DRAM components. It seems that most of the rumors are aligning on the launch of an Apple Vision Pro 2 in 2026–2027. I wonder if VR remains one of its most important use cases.
