This operation is similar to the “stitching” done with multiple flat videos that have to be merged into a 360video. Of course, this is also the mission of big players like Google and Apple. Performing similar reasonings on all the images , the system gradually reconstructs the whole 3D shape of the space.
Between 360video, virtual reality, and augmented reality, I think augmented reality has much bigger opportunities,” Asher said. Asher wouldn’t provide specifics, but it’s easy to imagine Adobe offering software for editing and creating 3D AR images in apps and video. “It’s not as bulky.
Apple finally talks about VR while taking a (very solid) swing at AR, Walmart will use virtual reality to train employees, you can grow better weed with AR + AI, and Q1 VR headset sales…. APPLE ACTUALLY TALKS ABOUT VR. APPLE TAKES A (VERY SOLID) SWING AT AUGMENTED REALITY. However… we’re still waiting for those apple AR glasses.
PlayStation looks to an arcade rollout, Shazam goes augmented, AMD wants to go wireless, HTC Viveport’s new subscription service, the investment & funding wrapup, and more… You can enjoy the full audio recording below: IT’S NOW WAY EASIER TO COMBINE 360VIDEO AND ANIMATION. APPLE HIRES AUGMENTED REALITY EXPERT FROM NASA.
And it also makes me super-happy that no one is about Facebook and Apple… I was getting pretty bored in writing newsletters only about these two companies! Even if they are just concept videos, they are a massive piece of news anyway. I wonder if something similar could be employed for 360videos….
From time to time, I like to look at the adoption graph of XR shown by John Riccitiello (the CEO of Unity) in 2017 , where you can see that the real acceleration of immersive technologies should start around 2022-2023. Yes, it’s a lot of time, but these are realistic projections.
During all these months, I had the occasion of reading on Linkedin about all his cool prototypes and enterprise solutions that he and his colleagues have developed inside the company, ranging from 360videos to hand-tracked training solutions with the Quest, not to mention XR entertainment solutions for airplane passengers.
You have video that you’re doing; maybe think about how 360video could enhance the experience, or bring it a step further. Alan: So let’s talk about the outlier here, and the one that is kind of on everybody’s mind: Apple Glasses. I don’t know the timeline around Apple. Rori: Yeah.

We all joked about Samsung waiting for the Apple Vision Pro announcement to copy it, but according to some rumors, this is exactly what is happening. Learn more (Join The Survey) Listen to me and Gian Gianluigi Perrone invited me to his MindCathedral Youtube channel to speak about the Apple Vision Pro.
Apple featured it a whole bunch of times. Just take 360video, for example. We've been working with Unity's Reflect team. Alan: It's interesting you say that, because everybody in the world was moving towards glTF, until Apple said, "Oh yeah, we got our own one!" laughs] Alan: [laughs] "By the way, we're Apple.

We don’t know who originated the leak… but honestly, considering the perfect timing to generate hype for Facebook Connect, and the fact that it just shows a bit without showing too much… well, I have some suspects… (Do you remember the “leak” about Quest 2 some days before Facebook Connect 1 and timely before Apple Event?
I picked Unity as the game engine because it is one of the best ones out there, I’m good at using it, it has a great community that can support you in case of issues, and it is also the first engine to be compatible with XR headsets when they’re out: Apple itself talked about Unity during the announcement of the Vision Pro.
We started working really early on with the DK-1 from Kickstarter, testing, playing around with Unity, seeing what we could do, up to now where we're easily 200+ commercially funded, brand funded XR experiences. As we know, some of the big guys -- including Apple -- are really not far from market. Daniel: Totally, totally.

It can work with any type of XR glasses, may they be mixed reality visors (a la Apple Vision Pro ), AR glasses (a la XREAL ), or smartglasses (a la Ray-Ban Meta ). First of all, similarly to what Apple did with iPad apps and Apple Vision Pro, almost all 2D apps on the Google Play Store will be usable from Day 1 on Android XR devices.
If you need a device that has an Apple-like stylish appearance, then the Go is the device you’re looking for. And then on the Focus, there is the preview utility developed by me to test the content you’re creating in Unity without building it! The Go and the Focus have a completely different style.
I think people were all moving towards glTF, and then Apple decided, “hey, we got our own file format, USDZ” — how do you manage a hundred different…? We were launching partners of Apple for USDZ and we’re working on it. I guess it would be still Unity, for now. So we will, yes. Alan: Perfect.

We were launching partners of Apple for USDZ and we're working on it. And so we already have a set of integrations with proprietary tools like Unity and Real Render and so on.

I remember years ago — I think it was probably, I want to say about five years ago — we had a Unity session in our office, where we did Unity development basics, and we invited a lot of companies from the area in Austin to come to our office, and we would run a Unity training session around 2D/3D asset development.

For sure the announcement at FC and the release date in 2021 have been studied to put some pressure on Apple , which seems to be the only rival to Facebook for what concerns the AR future. I’m a developer, where is Unity, where is Visual Studio? Otherwise, it just becomes a gimmick that you use for 1 hour.
