From headsets to haptic suits, there is going to be a lot of accessories and apparel in XR to chose from, including some that expand senses you didn’t even know were XR-compatible. You’ve got things like haptic suits, haptic gloves. Let’s start at something crazy; haptic suits.

Alan: There’s VR where you can make the full thing in computer graphics, but there’s also 360videos; being able to capture a training experience in 360video, and then add computer graphics on top of that. We’re not tied to MagicLeap. They’re going to sell you 360video.

Have you tried MagicLeap? Sam: I have tried the MagicLeap, yeah. You’ve got MagicLeap, you’ve got Nreal, you’ve got HoloLens, you’ve got all these companies. But Snapchat, their new glasses, just do what they did before, they take a video, but in post-production.

Radiant Images hopes to do the same with an investment in 360video production, and VP Michael Mansouri drops in to explain how. These are like the Microsoft Hololens, MagicLeaps. So they have full agency to interact inside this new medium, this new video file. This is a new format. We try not to do that.

Are they building stuff for MagicLeap? Last week I was in Orlando at the Simulation Summit in Florida, and I had the opportunity to try the haptics gloves, where you put on these giant gloves, but they simulate touch and picking up things. What are people leaning towards when they’re building stuff?

It was like a 360video, interactive experience. Alan: Are you seeing that 360video is something that people are resonating with? Alan: Are you seeing that 360video is something that people are resonating with? The 360video, they get bored very quickly; 360video is just TV in VR.

Haptic feedback is important, and you don’t have much to work with. So we found one that was down for maintenance and we kind of recorded stuff in there, 360video, which we used later for reference, and all sorts of measurements we did. What we have now, the Hololens and even the Hololens 2, and the MagicLeap.

Haptic feedback is important, and you don't have much to work with. Alan: Yeah, it seems for now, but I think we will probably get there where for things like if there's a simulator where you want to simulate the motion of something, even though it's not really moving, I think you could add haptic plate or something to simulate the motion.
But for a while that really looked like they and MagicLeap — and we weren’t really sure what MagicLeap looked like until very recently — were the only players in that market. So you’ve got 360video on one end. You’re getting to the point where you have haptics.

So there's a lot of hardware that's awesome, because it's coming out and it's brand new -- the VR and the haptic space and whatnot -- but I'm always cautious with seeing how many products are out there, and some of it might be this vaporware; you never know if it's a lot of smoke and mirrors. These things are not cheap to make.

And that's partly because people's understanding of VR is, "I can look around to 360 image. I can potentially look around a 360video." You've got very simple haptics; I can feel that I've stepped off of the mat, so therefore, I need to stop. You cannot explain virtual reality. It's experiential technology.

Google Daydream has exclusive access to YouTube’s considerable 360video library (although admittedly curation could be better) as well as its massive 2D video archive. MAGICLEAP’S CONTROVERSY. Check out the Reddit AMA from The Information reporter… and the rebuttal from MagicLeap itself.
It is an augmented reality glass that is being developed in China by a former MagicLeap engineer. Dubbed “Insta360 Titan”, it is able to record 360videos at 11K or 10K 3D at 30 fps, as well as at 8K at 60 fps and 5.3K It’s also capable of taking 11K 360 photos in 3D and monoscopic. at 120 fps.
A bit like what happened with Henry ported from PC to Oculus Go by John Carmack: he used a special encoding of 5K 360video and the experience is similar to the realtime UE4 experience on PC, even if at the same time it is completely different. useful haptic hands. Youtube VR. Great move, Oculus. truly accurate HRTF (possibly).
360Videos are not VR / Smartglasses are not AR. The best way to trigger someone from the XR communities is talking about 360videos and define them VR , or writing a post on smartglasses, and share it with the #AR tag. 5-10 years Believable haptics? Many marriages have broken because of this. 5-10 years AR Cloud?
The haptic feedback of these controllers has been improved , and they can provide much stronger vibrations than the one of the original Quest. This attitude makes me understand that Facebook won’t release an all-in-two headset with a cable like the MagicLeap One, and will always go for an untethered approach.
