It was a video player for virtual reality headsets, able to play both 2D videos, 360 videos, and 360 VR videos which was quite popular back in the Gear VR days. After graduating from the University of Southern California in Computer Sciences, he joined Oculus VR out of his passion for virtual reality.

Today, Oculus is announcing that the groundbreaking virtual reality short film, Lost , is coming to the Samsung Gear VR. Lost originally premiered for the Oculus Rift and was clearly designed with the unique capabilities and limitations of that system in mind. Lost 360 will be free on the Oculus Store.

One major exception to this used to be 360 videos and images, but now that restriction is becoming a thing of the past. Last week, VLC revealed that it is now 360 enabled for both images and videos. VLC 360 was created through a partnership between VideoLan and the hardware company Giroptic.

It doesn’t have controllers, and only features 3DOF head tracking; what it does have is a decidedly more approachable opera glasses-style design that lets you hold the headset with one hand so you can press it to your face without needing a headstrap, which could otherwise ward off some users.

As existing experiences are produced in stereoscopic 3D, they’re ideal for VR viewing, and the naturally panoramic scenes can be glanced around at using head-tracking as you would expect. We’re presuming that eventually, full length Fulldome content will be available for purchase within the application itself.
