Facebook’s VR headset subsidiary Oculus is finally integrating a native tool that will let you capture and share your Rift experiences through 360 photos and videos—one that developers can integrate into Unity and Unreal Engines, and across NVIDIA and AMD GPUs— and it’s available today on GitHub.
For OpenVR-compatible headsets like Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, watching streaming 360video from from your browser is now as simple as clicking a button and putting on your headset. From a user’s perspective, all you have to do then is navigate to a 360video and press the ‘VR mode’ button.
Now available for the HTC Vive, Spaces added cross-platform functionality for the first time Tuesday, letting you hang out with friends on both the Vive and the Oculus Rift. You can watch 360° videos together, make video calls, or draw in a 3D space. It’s now cross-platform. Own a Vive?
At a special event in Taipei, Taiwan, HTC cofounder and former CEO Peter Chou today revealed the first products from the new startup XRSPACE. Google is finally bringing the official YouTube VR app to the Oculus Store for Samsung Gear VR soon. It may be hard to believe but its been four years since Samsung and Oculus first announced their smartphone-powered Gear VR headset. In darker times, the best 360° videos we had access too were grainy, nauseating clips of GoPro stunts and claustrophobic concerts. I’m not sure which impresses me more. Let’s get lost.
