This experience had everything I could expect from a remote rendering solution: the scene was much more complex than anything the HoloLens could handle , and the rendering latency was low, so almost not noticeable. Again, I noticed that the remote rendering was working well, with good visuals and low latency.

HTC Partners to Stream VR Games to Vive in China, Cutting VR-Ready PCs Out of the Equation

While it only hosts “a few dozen” games, apps and a library of 360 videos at the moment, HTC says more content will be added over time, of course sourced from Viveport. HTC Vive China Regional President Alvin Wang Graylin admits however some latency is to be expected, saying it would be “ok for most non-twitch apps.”

AT&T to Demonstrate Cloud-rendered SteamVR Content Streamed Over 5G

The company says its 5G Lab, which is exploring use-cases for 5G and edge networking, will host the demonstration next month which will show SteamVR content rendered in the cloud and sent over a 5G network with low enough latency for a full 6DOF VR experience. This mode is very similar to the “Passenger mode” of the Vive Focus Plus , and lets you disable positional tracking if you don’t need it , something that can be useful to spare your battery when you just want to watch 360 videos. Incredibly handy. There are still issues with distortions, resolution and colors.
