Samsung confirms 5+ million Gear VR headsets are now in use worldwide, announced at their CES 2017 keynote. In his opening speech at CES 2017 this week, Samsung Electronics America president Tim Baxter announced that the company now has “more than 5 million” Gear VR virtual reality headsets in use.
This new standard evolves the previous H265 compression format for videos, reducing data requirement up to 50% while providing visually the same quality. The standard will prove especially efficient for 4K and 8K video and it works with high dynamic range video and omnidirectional 360° video.
I’ve been a big fan of the cute little Samsung Gear 360 camera since its first unveiling in the spring of 2016, and always recommend it to people inquiring about the best consumer-friendly 360 cameras out there. The cost is lower than the 2016 version with a pricetag of $229 and you can record in up to 4K resolution.
