The documentary was based on a feature-length film by Alex Gibney, called Zero Days as well. Essentially Scatter was asked to collaborate with Alex Gibney on the feature film, the documentary, where he wanted to wait to make his informant anonymous in a way that was native to the world of code and the language of code.

Easy 3D Avatars. The graphics lab at ICT captures high-quality digital faces for film with special (and expensive) scanning equipment. Shapiro runs a research group there called the Character Animation Simulation Research Group and one of its goals is to create a digital person that can behave like a real one.

The affordances of film cutting allowed for some more robust and deliberate worldbuilding that I had missed within the immersive translation. So overall, this piece is an experiment in user agency, environmental exploration, and how to seamlessly tie in some of these volumetric assets into a more embodied experience.
