But the world is three-dimensional, and so 3Dcapture is the next big frontier in reflecting our surroundings. Until recently, 3D scanning has been limited to professionals willing to buy expensive hardware and software, and work through intricate workflows. We believe 3Dcapture is going to be a major driver for VR adoption.
Thankfully, the baked-in Korean subtitles were simple to translate via Google’s camera-based app and were remarkably clear too. Matt Bell founded Matterport after the release of Microsoft Kinect and seeing it’s potential to create 3D environments to give someone that immersive feeling in a space. Bell and I discuss what it was like founding the company, building the prototype and looking forward to Google Project Tango. How did Matterport come to be?

Google Ends the Daydream. The key message to come out of Google I/O this year was that the company largely abandoned its plans to push forward the development of headsets and content for VR effectively retiring the Daydream and focusing on Augmented Reality features for the Google Lens instead.
