Far from fading away, over its nearly decade of existence VR has continued to evolve in ways both subtle and seismic, redefining whats possible in gaming, creativity, and connection. 2024 has been a year of milestones, where the long-promised potential of VR is becoming ever more undeniable.

It’s the end of the year, and like every December, it is the time to make a balance about how the past year went. There is a particular aspect of my professional year I want to tell you about and it is the attendance at XR events. This year, since my main job vanished and so I had more time, I decided to attend more XR-related events and see what outcomes I could obtain from these opportunities.

Itching for an easy way to access Windows apps on your XR headset? Youre in luck. At Ignite 2024 , Microsoft announced new support for Windows on Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S devices, designed to boost immersive collaboration and productive experiences for teams. Notably, users have been able to access Windows apps on the Meta Quest 3 before now (more on that in a moment).

To avoid awkward and sometimes disastrous learning content, instructional designers must use authentic translation in the right context to get optimal results. For example, even a simple phrase like “got milk” translates to “are you lactating” in Mexico. Can you imagine what a straight translation might do to your course? COLD VR, a spiritual successor to long-time hit SUPERHOT VR (2016), is officially headed to Quest and PC VR headsets next month, with its PSVR 2 version slated to arrive later. Superhot VR is old, but gold. And it’s a wonder more studios haven’t tried to replicate its game’s unique time-stopping movement mechanic.
