In my review of Amazon Sumerian I said multiple times that in other game engines, like Unity, it is not possible to create a WebVR experience. A WebVR exporter for Unity??? Unity on one side, a WebVR experience running on Firefox on the other one. So, how to do you export a WebVR project from inside Unity?
But today you no longer need to be a Unity professional or 3D designer to get into this sacred industry. Image Credit: Amazon. Sumerian by Amazon. In that regard, Sumerian is more similar to standard development software, such as Unity, than it is to software such as BioVR.
In fact, at launch, it won’t even be possible to create Unity content for it. According to the rumors, In the beginning only Apple’s first part tools (like RealityKit) will be allowed to create content, and only after, Unity support will come. The solution is having more realistic headsets and interactions, of course.
But there’s even more: Unity has already published a page about how it is possible to build for the Quest 3 using not only the XR Interaction Toolkit, but also AR Foundation. Unity page also confirms that the headset will provide plane detection, so you will be able for instance to detect the walls and the desks in your room.
Looking at the chart of the sales on Amazon US, it is possible to see that the headset had five times the peak sales volume during the 2024 holiday season as it did in 2023. The results are of course favorable to the new model. This is impressive. The numbers are still not comparable to those of Quest, but they are still very good.
The Content Decision Platform will be launched in the US by the end of 2025, which it plans to similarly apply to its Canada and Mexico markets in due course, thereby establishing a ‘new standard in global retail. The latter buzz term refers to a retailer’s ability to shift their products or services to meet changing customer demands.
Of course, there are more AR business models such as hardware sales (AR glasses). This democratizes advanced AR capabilities like graphics creation and includes tools like Unity , Amazon Sumerian and 8th Wall. But before we dive into these models, what are they at a high level? We categorize them as follows: 1.
Holo-Light has also just announced to have become the first AR/VR streaming provider to be named Unity Verified Solutions Partner. Amazon has for sure some servers in the region, so the streaming was happening from a close location. Hands-on XRnow.
The news of course has attracted a lot of funny comments, like “these dogs have better hardware than me”, or the invention of new terms like “Dogmented Reality”, or “AR Doggles”. Someone has made a WebAR exporter for Unity. This means that, even with many limitations, you’ll be able to create WebAR experiences from within Unity.
Top news of the week (Image by Meta) Meta launched Quest 3 The main piece of news of the week is of course the launch of the Meta Quest 3 at the Meta Connect. The last big feature is of course mixed reality: Zuckerberg defined the Quest 3 as the first consumer mixed reality headset.

That’s because he builds his AR experiences through his VR tool Modbox, explaining that if he wants to place an AR switch on his wall, it’s just easier to do it directly in AR rather than having to build it in the Unity Editor and then trying to position it correctly on a second screen.
If there is any new feature released in SDKs or libraries in Unity, you are most likely to find the first tutorial video about it on his YouTube channel. The free app, powered by Unity, opens with a quick warning about being aware of your surroundings while using AR and encourages you to supervise children when using the app.
Of course, Microsoft and Amazon are observing the situation: in my opinion, Microsoft will wait a bit , considering its focus on AR enterprise with HoloLens, while Amazon could improve its already existing offering of glasses connected with Alexa. WebAR will start to exploit its potential. And that’s it!
Of course, it is also useful for the classical use that made Engage popular these years: companies can organize events, meetings, and training sessions inside their permanent hubs among their employees. This is thanks to an always-on virtual world you can navigate whenever you want.
Of course, there are use cases in industrial settings, such as automation and visualization. This category also includes developer tools such as Unity and AR democratization tools such as Amazon Sumerian or Adobe Aero. But “enterprise” is a much broader market segment. This is the same way we think of enterprise AR.
O3DE initially began as Amazon Lumberyard , built on top of the CryEngine game platform technology. Amazon donated the project to the Linux Foundation in 2021, and O3DE became fully open sourced, with an Apache license. Plus, Unity and Unreal both have free options. And, of course, OpenSim has no built-in game mechanics.

Examples include Amazon Sumerian, Adobe Aero and of courseUnity. One of the subsegments of the spatial computing universe that we think holds the greatest opportunity is “building blocks.” ” Otherwise known as picks & shovels , these democratize and lower barriers to AR creation.
Of course I’m talking about a potential AR glass, the iGlass , that could so exploit the computational power of the phone without needing a cable to be connected to it. Blogger Tom Ffiske, that writes on Virtual Perceptions, has decided to write a very good book about AR and VR technologies and it is becoming pretty popular on Amazon.
It is one of those places where people look for 3D models , alongside other marketplaces like the Unity Asset Store, Google Poly or Turbosquid. Gemba designs and delivers so-called virtual “ masterclasses ” spanning subject matters such as supply chain management and lean manufacturing , working in conjunction with experts from the respective fields to deliver the courses which can run over several days. million for larger scale rollouts.
In another scenario, we may see game engines dominant, like Unity or Unreal. But we’d also expect to see the existing edge providers such as Cloudflare, Fastly, Akamai, the big cloud providers like Amazon, Google, Microsoft and a host of open-source tools for automation, deployment, caching, federated learning, serverless computing and so on.
Of course, CES is going to be the main topic of this weekly roundup, but there have also been interesting news not coming directly from there. For the people who have not been able to attend the even t, Ive also recorded a video of the whole XR area and of course, Im linking it below for you to enjoy. Lets go discover them! (PS
Of course, all of the various applications, programs and tools will require a base engine for creation, and that’s where Epic Games – and specifically its Unreal Engine – comes in. Right now your Amazon shopping experience involves looking at a lot of low-resolution JPEGs of products.

Our current system before COVID pushed everybody through at the exact same speed in every course. Our teachers [are] being pushed into managing multiple different courses with multiple different kids. But students in schools and even the teachers, they have ongoing learnings where they go to courses and stuff, and so there’s that.

Apple and Unity aren’t going to continue making this mistake, because they have done the kinds of human factor research I have. Of course I’m thinking of Apple, but others will try to compete for the home. Unity, alone, is going to make a HUGE play for this space. Conclusion: custom media beats high quality media.

So, it’s more like a Dropbox use case, if you will, for all the phases of product development, where a 3D artist needs to iterate with his colleagues and coworkers — and of course, none of them have 3D software to open any of the 3D designs. It was pretty mindblowing to hear that stat, and so of course we use that a lot.

Clean it off, of course.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that VR is mainstream yet, because we have to verify what have been the actual sales numbers and also what will be the retention of these new users in 3–6 months. I am a bit sad no one gave an award to The Unity Cube , though… I would have loved to get a “Worst Application Award 2021” from Road To VR….
