Reports indicate Oculus’ next headset will make its debut later this month. In October of last year, a report by Techcrunch claimed that Facebook’s Oculus would be abandoning its plans of a proper Oculus Rift 2 in favor of minor hardware updates to the existing Rift headset. With that backdrop, the Games Developer Conference (GDC) is returning to SanFrancisco in March, including lots of AR & VR focus. The GDC Expo showcases the latest game development tools and services from leading technology companies such as Amazon, Epic, Google, Intel, Nvidia, Oculus, and Sony.
All the big tech players — Microsoft, Google, Facebook, and Amazon — are in the game as well. Companies like Ikea, Target, and Amazon have already used ARKit, mostly for placing virtual furniture in a room to see if it fits. One wearer said she was assaulted outside a SanFrancisco bar in 2014 for wearing the glasses.
I dragged my camera down to meet her and her team in their offices in Marina Del Rey, near Los Angeles, to get a look at the business visualizations they are building for use in both Spatial Computing headsets, like Magic Leap, and VR, for HTC Vive, Oculus Quest or Rift, or others. Right away you see why this startup is gathering accolades.
The conference takes place on December 7th and 8th in SanFrancisco Marriott Marquis. It is surprising not to see major players from Amazon, Facebook, Google or Valve. The conference is organized by VR Intelligence, London-based firm whose leaders don’t hide that there’s an inflation of VR-related events.
The company, which is split between SanFrancisco and Hangzhou, China, says in a tweet that production of the Nreal Light developer kit has been halted. Delays are said to affect the most recent batch of backers. While the Coronavirus has spread to 24 other countries to date, 99% of cases have been confined to China.

He said that only on Christmas day, people spent $5M on the Oculus Store , and we can expect that most of this money was spent on Quest. Amazon promises “single-digit latency” XR streaming.

It is not on sale on US HP Store and will be on Amazon US next month. VRX is a very interesting virtual reality event that will take place in SanFrancisco, from 12th to 13th December. The company has now solved all the issues and the headset can return on the market. HP has also been good in apologyzing for all this mess.
I can’t guarantee that these predictions will come out to be true (I always joke about the fact that I miss many of the predictions about Meta/Oculus), but I think they will be worth reading anyway to understand what can be the trends to look for in this new year.
