He also is aware of Apple entering the market, and said his employees that the battle between Meta and Apple is a battle between open ecosystems vs closed ecosystems. The North-America-only limitation is quite a bummer for us Europeans, but honestly, as a developer, I understand the will of making an incremental deployment to be sure that everything works before expanding the product to many countries. Apple is entering the XR field, and Facebook is currently dominating the VR market.
Most people know Xu due to his dispute with American virtual reality company MagicLeap. In June 2019, MagicLeap accused Xu of stealing AR glasses technology when he was an engineer working at the firm. However, in June 2020, a U.S. federal court threw out the case as #MagicLeap failed to make any viable claim.
For sure the announcement at FC and the release date in 2021 have been studied to put some pressure on Apple , which seems to be the only rival to Facebook for what concerns the AR future.
