According to a report from Business Insider , earlier this year Apple was on the verge of acquiring LeapMotion, but the deal fell through days before it was expected to close. According to the report, this is the second time in some six years that Apple had conversations with the company about an acquisition.
I need to rush out this newsletter episode because otherwise tomorrow Apple launches its headset and no one will read my articles: everyone will be too busy reading “The top 5 features of the Apple headset” or “The 7 reasons why the Apple headset can revolutionize peeling potatoes”. How is Apple going to sell this headset?
Apple has been continuously iterating on ARKit , its augmented reality development tool that lets creators make smartphone-based AR experiences. One of the biggest claims to come from the report is the supposed announcement surrounding OS support for controllers with touchpads as well as “stereo AR headsets.”
Sony unveils the new controllers of the PSVR2. One month after the reveal of a “next-gen VR headset for the Playstation” (whose name is not known, but I guess it will be PSVR2), Sony has revealed one important detail of its new VR system: the controllers. The controllers will be given to selected developers very soon.
Top news of the week (Image by Apple) Apple Vision Pro 2 may come in 2026 The rumors about the Apple Vision Pro 2 continue. It seems that most of the rumors are aligning on the launch of an Apple Vision Pro 2 in 2026–2027. What a time to be alive! Matt Miesnieks said that the rumor aligns with some things he heard.
Access to cameras will require the application to ask permission from the user (that so is in control). I have no idea what will happen with all the hardware that has been sold and all the headsets that integrated an Ultraleap controller. There have been discovered references to controllers with the model number ET-OI610.
But the release of the Apple Vision Pro proved to Valve employees that people are fine with having an all-in-two device with two units connected by a cable. The Controllers can track the five fingers and have very strong haptic vibrations.
UploadVR had been receiving review units multiple days in advance of launch under embargo from Oculus/Facebook/Meta for 8 years now: both Rift headsets, the Touch controllers, Oculus Go, and every Quest to date - until now. This aspect of controller tracking works even in total darkness. Why Doesn't UploadVR Have A Quest 3S Review Yet?
Recently I had a big issue with my VR controllers in SteamVR (both with Oculus and Vive) and so I’m writing this post to try to help you in solving it. And when I put the headset on, I could see the grey intro environment, with all the controllers moving regularly. , but sometimes it is still tricky and problematic. WTF SteamVR.
Today it’s a great day for virtual reality: at WCVRI conference, HTC has just announced a kit to provide 6 DOF controllers for Vive Focus and has showcased a hands-tracking technology for the Vive Pro ! 6 DOF Controllers for Vive Focus. In short: the Vive Focus will finally have two 6 DOF controllers.
The sentence with which they have started the tease is “Big things are in motion here at Ultraleap”, which makes me think about something big that moves… may it be a new device to perform body tracking? According to a guy on Twitter that answered my post, Ultraleap should launch a new tracking controller this year.
It was a reference design by Goertek which was mounting no LeapMotioncontroller. No controller, just the standard headset cameras… Until now, all the headsets on the market featuring Ultraleap hand tracking (e.g. XTAL) had to incorporate the hardware of the Stereo Controller, but this device I was trying had none.
Meta is rolling out update v37 for Oculus Quest and Quest 2 bringing quality-of-life improvements like interface tweaks and tracking support for the Apple Magic Keyboard. The feature definitely reminds of us some excellent hand-tracking interaction concepts shared with us by LeapMotion (now Ultraleap) back in 2018.
On the last day, I tried many interesting technologies, but I selected two for this summary, which are the first two that I’ve tried: the new LeapMotionController by Ultraleap and the AR technology by LetinAR. You can see how it is in this picture, where I’ve put my hand for scale. The amazing Ben Lang.
Apple has killed its AR glasses project… maybe. A piece of unexpected news has shaken the XR communities this week: according to a report on Digitimes Taiwan, Apple has abandoned its AR/VR glasses project and all the members of the team have been re-allocated in other teams. AR is still alive, Apple will still release its AR glasses.
Hyperion supports the LeapMotionController 2 addon, which supports almost any headset (including standalone headsets) via USB or can be integrated into a headset's existing sensor suite by headset makers. LeapMotionController 2 owners can download Hyperion on from Ultraleap's downloads page.
At this point, there is another question that every one of us is making: is this a controlled leak by Valve itself? I’m not saying that it is absolutely a controlled leak… I just want to say that personally, I believe that it is. If it is a SteamVR 2 device, it can for sure work with all the SteamVR controllers.
With the latest open beta of VRChat you can now use hand tracking on PC too, including the finger gesture control system originally designed for Quest. Previously it was possible to use hand tracking to emulate Valve Index controllers on PC, but this didn't allow for full finger articulation.
In Neal Stephenson’s Snow Crash of 1992, the internet has been superseded by the Metaverse, a multi-person shared virtual reality with both human-controlled avatars and system “daemons”. An Apple AR headset has been a mainstay of the rumor mills for several years, and we expect Facebook to be creating an AR Oculus device.
The Reverb was already a very good headset (as you can read in my hands-on impressions ) with good comfort and an astonishing resolution, but it had some problems with the display (mura, red smearing) and with the controllers (classical mediocre WMR tracking). built in to headband Controllers ?—?6DOF pounds (0.55kg) Cable Length: 19.5
That’s basically what VR devs do today… and of course, they all do it slightly differently, leading to 3 or 4 different ways of activating a teleport on Quest apps using controllers. Sometimes I just want Apple to get their headset out, with one-right-way to do things, and save us all from bad VR UX once and for all.
It seems that Mark is still working on that vision, so that in the end, Facebook will be able to do on its devices whatever it wants, without compromises and without control. A company of this kind, with full control and no restrictions, could do great things on the tech side, but very bad things on the privacy side.
The company offers a range of modules, including the Stratos Inspire, and LeapMotioncontroller. For companies interested in a world of technology stepping beyond controllers, Ultraleap promises unlimited potential. The organisation is also investing in haptics, to help users feel more within the XR interactions.

Varjo’s newest headset (available in various styles) sincludes multifocal passthrough cameras, controllers co-developed by Razer, and even integration with the powerful NVIDIA Omniverse.
Above: David Holz, founder of LeapMotion, shows off hand-tracking in VR. The headset used sensors to detect my fingers, using software from LeapMotion. It was cool that I didn’t have to use a touch controller. It was cool that I didn’t have to use a touch controller. Image Credit: Dean Takahashi.
Take the leap! In this short (and surprisingly non-nauseating) VR experience, you lose control of your body and perform a free fall above a scenic vista. Their Mind the Arrow and Gelato Flicker titles have been featured under “Best New Games” on the Apple App Store, with over 350,000+ downloads between the two. Tatami Samurai.

LeapMotion. You may ask why I’m adding LeapMotion here. Well, during 2018, LeapMotion has announced the North Star reference design : a cheap augmented reality connected to PC, that is able to detect your hands very well thanks to LeapMotion’s sensor. Apple glasses.
I think there were people early on, like the folks at Sixth Sense who have the hand controllers. They were talking about there are a wide variety of things you can do with these hand controllers for VR. And that was with controllers. Do you think Apple is going to come out with their glasses in the next five years?

In a snippet from an upcoming interview we'll publish soon, we asked whether Kluge's future plans include supporting Apple Vision Pro. Since Vision Pro doesn't support traditional controllers, we then questioned future hand tracking support for Synth Riders. Perez expressed interest, saying, "we'd like to, but we'll see.
The whole event was all about Facebook creating a parent company called Meta that is going to control all the products that until now were in the Facebook’s family, that is Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp, Oculus, Portal, and all the rest. Ultraleap (formerly LeapMotion) has just released the fifth version of its hands-tracking engine.
The documentation was the same as before, if not for the fact that in the page about headset Input page, there was also a reference to “Oculus Jedi” controllers. Even the modified one with the header file talking about controllers just leaks the constant of their name. Something like the Valve Index controllers.
