AWE day two started off with back-to-back keynotes from mixed reality display maker MagicLeap and AR commerce solution Avataar. A Look at the MagicLeap 2. MagicLeap’s Head of Product Management, Jade Meskill, presented “MagicLeap 2 and the Augmented Enterprise.”
After the release of MagicLeap One earlier this month – the most anticipated launch in the sector – the industry’s best minds have shifted to content. . I think this is a good thing, as the gigantic pockets of Apple, Google, MagicLeap, Huawei and such like will help fund the creative endeavours of a whole new content ecosystem.”.
Most probably this announcement has been made to envision a future competition with Apple, bringing to XR the battle Android vs iOS (and Samsung vs Apple) that we already have on phones. I guess the purpose is to reassure its existing customers, to prevent them all from going to MagicLeap 2.
One of the more surprising announcements during the presentation, Spatial Anchors serve as a way to share three-dimensional images compatible with Apple’s ARKit as well as Google’s ARCore. To do that, it had to pass the basic impact tests from several protective eyewear standards used in NorthAmerica and Europe.
Apple’s Vision Pro triggered new discourse on the future of virutal, augmented, and mixed reality (VR/AR/MR). Revealed at the Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC), the Apple Vision Pro has sparked both praise and criticism from the global XR community. Apple is adept at proposing something you didn’t think you needed.
And I would think that Facebook, Snapchat, maybe Apple, those the main ones. In terms of who’s on the flip side of that marketplace, actually– we’re about to launch our first SDK and that’s– we think of it much more at a Unity level, than necessarily as an Apple or a Google level. Dominic: Yes and no.

Anne-Marie: MagicLeap’s doing a workshop. So not just the standard what we’re doing here or on the west coast of NorthAmerica. A lot of local companies, a lot of really interesting startups. And then we’ve got workshops too. Alan: Oh, tell me about the workshop! That’s important.

The North-America-only limitation is quite a bummer for us Europeans, but honestly, as a developer, I understand the will of making an incremental deployment to be sure that everything works before expanding the product to many countries. Apple is entering the XR field, and Facebook is currently dominating the VR market.
And they’re getting to the point where they’re retiring right here in NorthAmerica, a lot of the baby boomers are leaving the workforce. And it’s funny, because you look at something like MagicLeap, they raised $3.5-billion, Mike: We have no idea what Apple will do. Alan: Yeah. Spatial audio.
