Nreal is probably best known for its smartphone-tethered AR glasses, dubbed Nreal Light which made headlines back at CES 2019 for its relatively small form-factor in comparison to MagicLeap One or Microsoft HoloLens. The company’s Series C comes at a time when Apple is clearly making preparations for its own XR headsets.
Apple announces ARKit 4, amongst new rumors of XR headsets. The story goes on telling that Apple VR headset had realistic visuals and sound, it was super-cool and probably we’ll see a release date of 2022/2023. More info (New rumors about Apple and XR) More info (Apple ARKit4). We all can’t wait. Other relevant news.
Similar to other AR headsets, such as the MagicLeap One Creator Edition or Microsoft HoloLens, a tiny projector mounted near the temple would project a small image onto the lenses in front of the user’s eyes. Recently, Apple filed a patent for its own consumer VR/AR headset. Image Credit: US Patent and Trademark Office.
AWE day two started off with back-to-back keynotes from mixed reality display maker MagicLeap and AR commerce solution Avataar. A Look at the MagicLeap 2. MagicLeap’s Head of Product Management, Jade Meskill, presented “MagicLeap 2 and the Augmented Enterprise.”
With rumors of upcoming Apple glasses surging, and the investment made in MagicLeap that until now has been unfruitful, for sure Google is looking for an alternative to build its AR strategy. Apple adds spatial audio to AirPods. Brick after brick, Apple is building its full AR ecosystem in front of our eyes.
MagicLeap has just organized its first developers’ event, dubbed “L.E.A.P.” It is the first event of this kind organized by MagicLeap: we can say that LEAP Con is like the Oculus Connect of MagicLeap and will probably become always more important, year after year, exactly as it has happened to Oculus.
One of the more surprising announcements during the presentation, Spatial Anchors serve as a way to share three-dimensional images compatible with Apple’s ARKit as well as Google’s ARCore. In other words, down with the “walled garden” approach favored by companies such as Apple and Oculus. Spatial Anchors.
The Smart-Accessory Revolution A Pew Research Center survey conducted at the beginning of 2013 showed that only 51% of adults in the UnitedStates owned a smartphone, 6 years after the launch of the 1st-generation Apple iPhone. The Apple AirPods Pro is also reported to have up-to 5 hours of use per charge (without the case).
At Tilt Five, we designed a really clever system that only works on tabletop experiences but it has features that are just leaps and bounds above what the big MagicLeap or HoloLens type AR systems are. If a family can afford spending the money for 4 MagicLeap Ones, they can play this board game together (Image by Road To VR).
Smart Glass Vendors Rise and Fall The significance of this strategy is that it comes as global tech giants across the UnitedStates temporarily suspended their smart glass products to focus on leaner, more conservative research and development (R&D) strategies for mixed reality (MR) products.
Many products showcased at the conference included flagship releases of VR headsets and solutions such as the Meta Quest Pro, MagicLeap 2, Lenovo ThinkReality A3, and AT&T’s Volumetric Video Photo Booth, among many others. Currently, ExplodedView is iOS exclusive.
They work on Oculus Quest, they work on the MagicLeap. Apple had a very kind of-- it's the first time Apple didn't announce a phone in September, which is interesting. And I believe that even MagicLeap, if you'd put the three billion into MagicLeap starting today, they may have a shot.

Here is our first analysis (located at: [url]) on why we should all be paying attention to what is happening in humanoid robots and consumer electronics, which include autonomous vehicles that are now arriving to people’s garages and, soon, Augmented Reality devices from Apple and others. The robot brings other robots.
This is confirmed by companies such as MagicLeap who have raised a further 2 billion recently for the development of their second mixed reality device, although the first one hardly made much of an impact in the market regardless of how much money was initially invested.
However, there will most likely be a changing wave of opinion after Apple announces its presumably killer consumer XR device. Apple appears to be very close to announcing an immersive product, with the leading computing firm prompting AR/VR/MR outlets to cover the event.
Remember MagicLeap? This week, I spent an hour or so playing around with the unreleased next-generation MagicLeap headset, all while discussing the augmented reality company’s wild ride with MagicLeap CEO Peggy Johnson and other members of their executive team. So, let’s talk about it.
Companies like MagicLeap and Hololens, those are great devices where most of the compute is done on the headset… well MagicLeap is actually done on a pack that’s wired in. And I think nobody really knows what Apple is working on. Alan: Yeah, I think so as well. It could be your phone.

One is Draco file, one’s a USDZ and one is a glTF, and then we have a couple other ones that we use that were playing around with, especially for things like MagicLeap that we’re working with, and some other kind of newer file formats that we just want to be able to support them. I mean, tomorrow is the Apple event, right?

And so we're using a lot of the technologies that Google and Apple have been working on -- the ARKit and ARCore and things like that -- of being able to measure the room around you, and then be able to engage with it and start to interact with it and start to answer those what-if questions without having to order--. Alan: Amazing.
