These augmented reality devices are manufactured by Chinese company Realmax and are characterized by a very wide field of view. While many other AR glasses (like Nreal Light or HoloLens 2 ) have a Field Of View in the 50° ballpark, RealMax glasses have always had ones above 100° , for a more immersive augmented experience.
Today I have the pleasure of publishing an interview I had with Graham Atlee , a very smart guy that has developed the Triton Project, a DIY affordable AR headset with wide FOV and natural hands interactions! Madefire, the minds behind the Motion Books 3D comic format and publishing platform, today released a new app for MagicLeap One that will let users not only publish their own 3D ‘motion comic’ creations directly to the AR headset, but also experience a number of comics in the Madefire catalog.
There’s a lot that can be said about the MagicLeap One. And although its OS and apps don’t fully utilize the tech available to them, MagicLeap One is an ambitious, well-made, but imperfect MR devkit that doesn’t quite live up to the hype, but is still the most complete and affordable mixed-reality (MR) computer out there.
Formerly known as Ultrahaptics, Ultraleap was formed after the UK-based haptics company acquired leading hand-tracking company LeapMotion back in 2019. However, with a growing number of XR devices on the market and the steady march toward consumer-friendly AR glasses, the company seems poised to find the right fit eventually.

Data Point of the Week is AR Insider’s dive into the latest spatial computing figures. How did funding in the AR sector fare in 2019? Walmart, Coca Cola and Mercedes Benz are using Post Mobile AR to give customers a more interactive in-store experience. Dallas-based spatial experience company Spacee has come up with a technology that can deliver an AR experience that doesn’t require a phones, tablet, glasses or any other type wearable to operate.
Some days ago, the new Gartner Hype Cycle has been released and this time, as you can see here below, not only there is no mention of VR, but there are also no references to AR and MR ( Thanks Kevin Williams and Sam Watts for having made me notice that). Considering that HL 1 had a FOV around 30-35° (the exact number has never been disclosed), I think that a reasonable guess is around 70-75° , that is a massive improvement, that will make AR more usable. For what regards the user experience, instead, there are great innovations. Resolution.

Side note that AR will be much bigger than VR, in both the diversity of use cases and market size (analysts predict $30B for VR versus $90B for AR by 2020), but I still believe that most homes will have a dedicated VR space for total immersion. There’s been a strong hype about this, and I’ve already seen porting of Tilt Brush to AR (HoloLens) and WebXR; I’ve seen a new free version appearing on SideQuest; someone has also created a prototypical multiplayer version of it. In my visit, I tried a lot of AR/VR experiences , most of them just for few minutes. 3D objects had washed out colors , a bit like when you see AR objects through HoloLens 1 and MagicLeap One … they appeared a bit semi-transparent.
