When I was at AWE, one of the demos I was the most curious about was the one of Distance Technologies, the company that promises to offer glasses-free augmentedreality. Side view of the optical setup, with a horizontal surface and a reclined glass In front of this setup, there was a LeapMotion Controller 2 sensor.
LeapMotion, Inc., the leading creator of motion tracking technology for natural input in virtual and augmentedreality, today announced $50 million in Series C funding led by clients advised by J.P. Morgan Asset Management’s Private Equity Group, has joined LeapMotion’s board of directors.
LeapMotion North Star. Image courtesy LeapMotion. Not wanting to wait for the future to one day show up, LeapMotion has designed its own prototype AR headset which is made to give developers a development platform which represents the input and output experience that future AR headsets will hopefully one day provide.
This week I have been pretty busy working on our mixed reality fitness game that is very close to launch and in preparing some amazing articles for next week (I will publish a review of the Valve Index and a super-amazing interview to Jeri Ellsworth, the creator of TiltFive augmentedreality glasses!), Image by Ray-Ban).
Something to note, all nominees had to be centered on a virtual reality experience, and not an augmentedreality experience. LeapMotion – LeapMotion. Industrial Training International – ITI Crane Simulator. Nominees for VR Headset of the Year. HTC – Vive. Razer – OSVR.
The LeapMotion Controller 2 is the ideal hardware for experiencing Ultraleap’s world-class hand tracking. Key improvements over the original LeapMotion Controller include higher resolution cameras, an increased field of view, and 25% lower power consumption, all in a 30% smaller package for optimum placement and convenience.
Lenovo’s new AR concept headset & Disney partnership, all the VR/AR goodies at Comic-Con, Steven Spielberg’s trailer for Ready Player One is finally here, new industry landscape shows 60% increase in enterprise augmentedreality, the investment & funding wrapup, and more… 1. via The Venture Reality Fund.
Recently, LeapMotion kicked off one of our internal hackathons, where small teams pitch and develop quick demos over the course of two days. Built using C++/OpenGL, the project uses genuine Windows API calls to bring the interface into augmentedreality. Danger: Scooter Warpspeed. Utility: Swipey Joe McDesktop.
At LeapMotion, we believe that the next wave of technological interfaces will rely on the original human operating system: your hands. With HackingEDU just around the corner, LeapMotion is sponsoring the world’s largest education hackathon with over 100 LeapMotion Controllers for attendees to use.
At LeapMotion, we’re always looking to advance our interactions in ways that push our hardware and software. As one of the lead engineers on Project North Star, I believe that augmentedreality can be a truly compelling platform for human-computer interaction. As we augment our reality, we augment ourselves.
It is astonishing, especially if you consider that it is not a real fluid simulation, but just a very complicated shader. After many months of teasing them, Unity has finally launched the MARS tools, a suite of tools to build easily AugmentedReality experiences in Unity without knowing how to code. Unity launches MARS tools.
Ambarish Mitra is the CEO and co-Founder of #Blippar one of the first billion dollar “AugmentedReality” Startup from India, being a pioneer, early mover brings its own pro’s & lots of Con’s. Founder CEO of #JaduAR he is working on Building the future of musical experiences with AugmentedReality. 1- Ambarish Mitra.
I’m an early-stage VC focused on virtual and augmentedreality, so I pieced this together based on the forward-thinking pitches and demos I’ve been lucky enough to see through my work, plus a lifetime of burning through sci-fi and video games. Weight is tougher to simulate in VR. You’d smell the grass.
The system is already used on the $3,000 HoloLens, an advanced augmentedreality system, but with it employed on a low-cost VR headset Microsoft may have leapfrogged efforts by both Facebook and Google, powered by Windows. Very early prototype controllers from Valve that simulated gripping and dropping objects.
North Star sets a high bar for accuracy and performance, since it must be maintained across a much wider field of view than any previous augmentedreality headset. LeapMotion North Star calibration combines a foundational principle of Newtonian optics with virtual jiggling.
There are a number of ways to create your own virtual reality (VR) or augmentedreality (AR) app/videogame. The Virtuoso toolkit has been in development for several years, initially aimed towards military medical training and education by advancing medical simulation systems.
The demo puts you in control using a combination of LeapMotion interaction and a fully integrated Hands On Throttle and Stick (HOTAS) control system. As a pre-production demo, it also explores a variety of other concepts including: the use of narrative context to aid motion control usability. Why a space simulator?
Please try a new text input interface using LeapMotion!” LeapMotion enables new ways of using our devices but we still unconsciously use the mouse and keyboard as a model, missing potentially intuitive solutions,” the team told us. ” Requires: Windows. Requires: Windows, Oculus Rift.
With Paper Plane , we studied the basic features of LeapMotion using fairly simple mechanics. That’s the feeling we wanted to simulate. The idea for Hauhet came during the discussion about different ways to look at interaction in virtual reality. What was it like incorporating LeapMotion into your Unity workflow?
In the context of motion controls, good affordance is critical, since it is necessary that users interact with objects in the expected manner. With 2D LeapMotion applications, this means adapting traditional UX design principles that condensed around the mouse and keyboard. Restrict Motions to Interaction. Ergonomics.
Since the OSVR launch in January this year, nearly 250 organizations including Intel, NVIDIA, Xilinx, Ubisoft, LeapMotion, and many others have joined the OSVR ecosystem. Concurrent with the expansion of the OSVR community, the capabilities of the software platform have grown by leaps and bounds.
Probably Ultraleap, or even when it was just LeapMotion, should have aimed to be bought by a headset manufacturer before all the major XR brands started developing hand tracking internally. I have no idea what will happen with all the hardware that has been sold and all the headsets that integrated an Ultraleap controller.
I mean, if you think about it, let’s say you have a firefighter squad that wants to train together, and, you know, they have a giant field that they can simulate a real fire in a building. So it is kind of a 1:1 physical, kind of like a simulator training for airplane pilots; they’re doing it for forklifts. Alvin: Yeah.

You’ve seen it from pre-DK1 days — where [it was] probably a cobbled-together a collection of flat screens, wires, and duct tape — and what it is today, where you have real consumer-grade virtual reality that’s not even connected to computers. You’ve written countless articles on virtual and augmentedreality.

More info News worth a mention (Image by Ultraleap) Ultraleap launches LeapMotion Controller 2 Hand-tracking company Ultraleap has just announced the LeapMotion Controller 2 , the evolution of the iconic LeapMotion Controller, which is smaller and more precise than its predecessor.
Dynamically mapping rich features of input gestures to properties of physics-based simulation made the interface controllable in most cases. To test the feature, the team used an Oculus Rift CV1 for display and a LeapMotion was applied for hand tracking.
Cube Simulator. I honestly never heard of the LeapMotion Controller until someone posted on Facebook about the 3D Jam. I love experimenting with virtual and augmentedreality technologies because I think they’re some of the most versatile media ever created,” says Scott, “and their rules and uses are still up in the air.
Virtual reality. Augmentedreality. Mixed, hyper, modulated, mediated, diminished reality. That’s the brief we’ve been working on at LeapMotion Design Research. The post Mirrorworlds appeared first on LeapMotion Blog. Our actual future will be much stranger, subtler and more complex.
The “most WTF news of the day” prize has been won by the University of Taiwan, where researchers have worked on a haptic device with fur on it so that to simulate your contact with an animal. You can now touch a virtual cat with full haptics. Thanks to this, you can so touch a virtual cat in a very realistic way. Years of research for… cats.
