The company’s annual two-day event is dedicated to exploring the future of Facebook’s family of apps and services (including Oculus), and how businesses and developers can leverage them. In the last 12 months, the Facebook brand has become increasingly visible and involved with the Oculus subsidiary. Wednesday, April 19.
Likewise, hardware, software and third-party content creators for extended reality (XR) are seeing much stronger enterprise growth compared to consumer sector growth over the last 12 months: almost half (49.2%) reported that growth on the consumer side was weaker than expected, as opposed to just 25.7% working on AR/MR.
And Oculus Quest is a beacon of hope on the VR side. Though the successful casestudies get disproportionate attention, panning back to the larger market’s resistance is required for a full view. That includes hardware and software, such as AR glasses and visualization support for industrial assembly and maintenance.
It’s partially funded by Meta, but founders got in with Oculus co-founder Michael Antonov long before Facebook bought the company (and subsequently changed the name of both companies to “Meta”). The company is looking at the emerging AR glasses hardware market, but still needs controllers for the time being.
Indeed, web AR has become a go-to channel for AR campaigns for spirits brands, which we’ll cover in Part II of this report series that will do a dive deep on several AR advertising casestudies. What is interesting the most are not the features, that more or less are the same as most other headsets: integrated headphones, halo+headband, IPD adjustment, etc… It seems a mix of a Samsung Odyssey and an Oculus Rift S. The Oculus Quest 2 continues its march towards mainstream adoption. It wouldn’t be a normal week without some news about Facebook and/or the Oculus Quest.
