On stage at Vive Developer Conference in Beijing, HTC today unveiled their upcoming standalone VR headset, Vive Focus. These accessories could include LeapMotion, VR input gloves, 6DoF controllers and even eye-tracking solutions if manufacturers are so willing, Engadget reports.
Unlike the Lucasfilm AR headset, which uses a smartphone to power it (like the Google Daydream or the Samsung Gear VR does), the company says this concept is a standalone, self-powered headset. San Francisco-based LeapMotion has raised a $50M Series C for their hand- and finger-tracking technology.
“Hold my beer”: this is what the Vive Focus has told to all other standalone headsets yesterday at the Vive Ecosystem Conference in Shenzhen. This hand tracking is very rough, so do not expect a LeapMotion -type interface, but it can be good for some VR applications. And Vive Controllers?
And there is even more: during the whole conference, Oculus has not mentioned updates for the Rift S and has not talked about the headset at all, if not to announce the new AAA PC VR games , that will be anyway playable also via Link. LeapMotion. You may ask why I’m adding LeapMotion here. Well, during 2018, LeapMotion has announced the North Star reference design : a cheap augmented reality connected to PC, that is able to detect your hands very well thanks to LeapMotion’s sensor.
He is the Founder of Immersion- India’s 1st & largest AR/VR Conference plus the Founder of #XROM an AR/VR News website plus a B2B2C Marketplace which has the largest inventory of XR Products to Buy,Sell or Rent. He has demonstrated even more original (and less scary) ideas for AR interaction while directing UX design at LeapMotion.
