Originally launched for free on the HTC Vive, Earth VR is available on the Rift with support for Oculus Touch controllers — and of course it’s still free. Some new locations include Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany, Table Mountain in SouthAfrica, Perito Moreno Glacier in Argentina, Mt Lassen in California, Palermo in Italy, and more.
When it comes to public spaces like shops and museums, self-service virtual reality isn’t really a thing yet; first-timers generally need to be told how to put on the headset, how to hold the controllers, and where to stand.
Curiscope created Operation Apex under the guidance of SouthAfrica-based research and conservation organization Oceans Research. The creators also say Oculus Rift is slated for release sometime in 2018, and that the game requires Vive controllers to play.
I am also excited because thanks to the organizers of the VRX event, yesterday I have been able to interview Facebook’s Sean Liu and ask him some questions about Oculus and its vision of Virtual Reality. The game will be optimized for working on the Valve Index and especially on its controllers. Oculus Link is here.
