Apple is marketing the wearable system as a spatial computer, focusing strongly on the developing MR world. Like other leading MR devices, the Vision Pro is controller free. Fortunately, the powerful and unique features built into the system make the wearable an excellent solution for various use cases.
The controller-free headset will launch at the start of next year, costing $3499 in the US. Also, the device leverages cutting-edge, catadioptric lenses and ZEISS optical inserts for unrivalled fidelity. This allows seamless usage of iPhones, MacBooks, Watches, and other wearables while using the headset.
ZEISS optical inserts will cost between $99 and $149. You can toggle the “full-color passthrough” option on or off in your settings or use a controller shortcut. Hand and Eye Tracking Functionality and Controllers Both the Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest Pro have controller support and offer eye and hand tracking.
Apple is working with ZEISS to bring optional optical inserts to the product, with “Readers” soon available for $99 and prescription standard optics for $149. Apple will start the pricing of the Vision Pro at $3,499 for a model with 256GB of storage.
Since then, the arrival of the new mixed reality wearable has become one of the hottest topics in the industry. The Apple Vision Pro is Apple’s first foray into the world of XR wearables. Light shields, headbands, and custom Zeiss optical inserts for people who need eyeglasses are likely to be extra.
The bad news is that the Apple Vision Pro release date for the cheaper wearable could be further away. The glass pane is also a lens for the extensive camera array of the Vision Pro, which has allowed Apple to eliminate the need for controllers. There are no physical controls included with the device.
Moreover, the device also negates keyboard requirements (and controller requirements) with eye and hand-tracking features integrated into the headset. The goal is to extend the capabilities of laptop and desktop screens, evolving 2D screen-based computing to 3D spatial computing.
It will also have a ring of LED lights to improve eye-tracking performance and hand-tracking sensors, allowing users to interact with their spatial computing environment without controllers. The headset will support two power options: an outlet and an external battery pack.
