This year Razer made one of my favorite sketches, announcing the release of the Razer Skibidi, the headset that is able to translate what you say to the language of Gen Z and vice versa. Ndreams announced Synapse 2, but only for Google Cardboard, and Voodoo DE showed a preview of a very futuristic device.
Ok, of course, I’m kidding, but, you know, the possibility of saying the wrong name is so high that my proposal actually starts making sense… Top news of the week (Image by HTC Vive) HTC reveals inside-out-tracked Tracker With a totally unexpected move, HTC has revealed a new kind of Tracker.
HTC Vive XR Elite HTC Vive XR Elite (Image by HTC Vive) The star of the event has for sure been the Vive XR Elite, HTC’s latest flagship headset. Vive XR Elite is a headset that is very lightweight, and many people that tried it at CES reported that it felt very comfortable for the time of the demo.
The Razer-fronted Open Source Virtual Reality (OSVR) platform was announced along with its very first flagship hardware, the Hacker Developer Kit (HDK for short). At MWC in Barcelona in March that year, HTC unveiled the Valve/SteamVR driven Vive headset and arguably went on to dominate the Game Developer Conference (GDC) show which followed.
Valve added support for the Open Source Virtual Reality headset from Razer. OSVR is the third VR platform supported by Steam after the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive. The OSVR has been announced by Razer in 2015, along with a first development kit with full-HD screen. Abduction Prologue: The Jonathan Blake Story (Demo).

at GDC in March, Epic Senior Designer Nick Donaldson schooled us on some of the intricacies of Unreal’s new VR Editor, modifying a pre-built demo scene using the Oculus Rift and Touch controller in the Epic booth at GDC. The HTC Vive of course, ships with motion controllers and is available to buy now (give or take a week or two).
E3 2016 kicks off this week; it’s the first E3 since the launch of the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, and the last before the launch of Sony’s PlayStation VR headset. Also hot off the release of their first consumer-headset, the HTC Vive , HTC and Valve aren’t likely to be sharing anything new on the hardware end at E3.
After a launch presentation that included a live demo of Gears of War 4 running at 4K on Ultra settings on a GTX 1080 notebook, and Doom running on a mobile GTX 1080 overclocked to 2GHz, we were given some hands-on time with an impressive range of Pascal-based notebooks from Acer, Asus, EVGA, HP, MSI, and Razer.
The HTC Vive is finally getting integrated headphones later this year, and co-creator Valve’s latest acquisition could help you get the most out of them. It’s been a while since the company has demoed its tech, but you can see (or, more accurately, hear) the state it was in a year ago at CES 2016 below.
This was what inspired me to create Graffiti 3D – a VR demo that I entered into the Leap Motion 3D Jam. Some recent rumors imply that they’ve added support for the 6DOF controllers included with the HTC Vive headset. Similarly, VRClay and Virtual Clay use Razer Hydras to sculpt meshes in 3D. Why virtual reality?
My accumulative 30 minutes across three simulator-focused demos suggest VR1 definitely delivers the bulk of what’s promised, albeit with a few caveats (and features) that will probably push many towards the lower-priced alternative… but not everyone. That includes SteamVR 2.0
I’m sure that after April, 20th, the Meta Quest ecosystem will appear even richer than it is now , creating a wider gap with other companies that may think about competing with the Quest, that is Pico, HTC, and even Apple. I have seen the demo via a Zoom call and CNET’s Scott Stein saw it live and we came out both impressed by it.
I have tried its software in my office before going to Taiwan and then also had a live demo of some of its features in iStaging’s beautiful office. Apart from the demos, it has been also interesting talking with iStaging about the virtual tour business. O), but for now I can tell you that it really delivers what it promises.
So HTC has given us some Vive Focus and we love them, because being untethered is a huge important part of having audience come in and not feeling like it’s a hassle, but really having this like ritualistic atmospheric experience without breaking that sense of immersion. We’re speaking with Razer as well.
