Riding the wave of excitement over Google’s new VR platform, Daydream, Epic Games CTO Kim Libreri announced on the Google I/O stage today that the gaming giant has brought support for Daydream to Unreal Engine 4. In a collaboration with Hardsuit Labs on the plugin, Epic Games has made Unreal Engine 4 support for Daydream available now.
Also noteworthy: Final Cut Pro X will be able to support 360 video editing, Unity and Unreal now have VR support for Macs, and SteamVR is coming to Mac… and although there was a sweet on-stage mixed reality demo using Star Wars assets and an HTC Vive, there was no mention of support for Oculus. Unreal Engine 5 may change the rules of game development. Out of nowhere, Epic Games has teased the next version of Unreal Engine, Unreal Engine 5, due to be released in 2021. In my opinion , the true error is with the Vive 1 , that will get a price that is higher than the one of all the competitors… and that will cost as much as a Samsung Odyssey, notwithstanding its far lower features. After so much time teasing it, Google has finally announced Android XR, the version of Android for XR devices, and gave hands-on demos of the headset it is building with Samsung and Qualcomm. Google hopes it to become the to-go open operating system that XR device manufacturers choose as the runtime for their headsets and glasses.
Microsoft and Samsung may be partnering for an AR device. According to Korean media, Samsung Electronics is working with Microsoft on a new augmented/mixed reality project “involving HoloLens”. Samsung is one of the most famous suppliers of components for electronic devices (e.g. Samsung Odyssey+).

With the same money, I think they could have made a more impressive demo with exotic waveguide materials that didn’t seem so far off in the future. He said the company is now in a good financial situation and is working on its next iteration of the Unreal Engine game engine.
