You might have noticed an unfamiliar icon in your app drawer today. Don’t be alarmed, because that’s the new logo for Meta’s XR content store, and it’s setting the stage for more changes yet to come. Two short years ago, Quest’s content store was simply called ‘Oculus’, making for one of the last holdouts of Oculus branding after Facebook rebranded to Meta in 2021.

Meta today announced plans to update Quest 3 with AI vision features similar to what’s on the company’s latest Meta Ray-Ban glasses. Meanwhile, Apple still hasn’t confirmed if Apple Intelligence features will hit Vision Pro at the same time as other Apple devices this Fall. Meta has pointed to AI investments as its other major area of R&D alongside XR, and now the company is starting to bring the two together with consumer-facing AI features.

Meta AI will be available on Quest headsets in the US and Canada as an experimental feature in August, and will include the Vision capability on Quest 3. Meta AI is the company's conversational AI assistant powered by its Llama series of open-source large language models (LLMs). In the US & Canada, Meta AI is currently available in text form on the web at meta.ai or in the WhatsApp and Messenger phone apps, and in audio form on Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses via saying "Hey Meta".

Soaring Roc Studio announced a release date for its latest game, Stabby, a noir-inspired stealth-action game. Today, publisher Rogue Games and Soaring Roc Studio (Conjure Cards and Sun Shard) announced that you can run, jump, slash, and stab to your heart's content when Stabby hits Quest 2 and Quest 3 on July 25th. The announcement came via a trailer uploaded to Rogue Games' YouTube channel earlier today.

Magic Leap has reportedly laid off its sales and marketing teams as a result of the company’s decision to focus on licensing the technology behind its headsets. The technology news provider Bloomberg shared the news that the augmented reality startup cut 75 jobs last week, according to two of its sources “familiar with the matter”. Only a few years ago Magic Leap was making headlines after raising $3.5 billion from Alphabet and other key investors.

HighPoint Technologies has updated their NVMe switch and RAID solutions with PCIe 5.0, and supporting up to eight NVMe drives. The new HighPoint Rocket 1600 (switch add-in card) and 7600 series (RAID adapters) are the successors to the SSD SSD7500 series adapter cards introduced in 2020. Similar to its predecessors, the new Rocket series cards are also based on a Broadcom PCIe switch (PEX 89048).
