What are the biggest lessons learned from a career in XR? Where are we now in XR's lifecycle and what can we expect next? We're interviewing AWE XR Hall of Fame inductees to find out, continuing here with Jay Wright. This post appeared first on AR Insider.
Logitech today unveiled an XR stylus that comes as Meta Quest’s first third-party motion peripheral, targeting creatives working in both 2D and 3D media. Called Logitech MX Ink, the spatially-tracked stylus supports Quest 2 and Quest 3, as well as “future headsets,” Logitech says. The company additionally confirmed it won’t support Quest Pro.

Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) is over, and while Vision Pro was a big focus with the announcement of its visionOS 2 update , it’s pretty clear Apple’s first mixed reality headset isn’t in a hurry to feature-match other XR headsets at this point, let alone Meta Quest 3. When Apple eventually does step down to the XR playing field with a more consumer-friendly headset though, there are a number of things would-be owners are probably hoping for that have so f

To avoid awkward and sometimes disastrous learning content, instructional designers must use authentic translation in the right context to get optimal results. For example, even a simple phrase like “got milk” translates to “are you lactating” in Mexico. Can you imagine what a straight translation might do to your course? With over 317 million people in the US and over 6.7 billion potential customers in the world, personalizing training seems logical.
One of the more subtle trends at this year's Computex was that the majority of high-end motherboards now come equipped with a 5GbE network controller. At present, this might be considered a limited benefit as 5GbE and 10GbE switches and routers are still pretty expensive. But Realtek is planning on tackling the issue from both ends, as the company is preparing a hardware platform for sub-$100 5GbE switches.
VR/AR/VMR headsets are becoming increasingly sophisticated, with new high-quality head-mounted device technology debuting nearly every month; vendors are attempting to understand emerging adoption hurdles. One of the most notable adoption hurdles is the form factor and weight of headsets. Many XR hardware use cases, whether AR smart glasses or a VR headset, require workers to want to wear a headset for long periods of time and heavy products can get in the way of this adoption.

YouTuber Brad Lynch (aka SadlyItsBradley) has completely replaced all of his computer screens with an Apple Vision Pro, even going as far as getting a headless Mac Book Pro that does not even have a screen. Taqtile is soon to release its work-instruction platform ‘Manifest’, which can be accessed via ARGO smartglasses. By combining ARGO’s hand-tracking capabilities with Taqtile’s spatial computing technology contained within Manifest, creates a “robust” solution for deskless workers around the world. The spatial computing and augmented reality (AR) technology company, Taqtiile, first announced its partnership with DigiLens at Augmented World Expo (AWE) last year.
AirPlay Mirroring to Apple Vision Pro with visionOS 2 dramatically expands the headset's capabilities, and new features better integrate your iPad, Mac, keyboard and controllers too. The first VR headset to ship after Facebook’s acquisition of Oculus in 2014 was the Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition, using the Note 4 smartphone as its display, processing center, and battery.
We’re seeing a wave of new generative AI tools that can write text, generate images, create music and more. Some can even write computer code, which makes sense when you think that computer code is just another type of language. From a well-known, generic tool like ChatGPT to specific AI coding tools created for developers, new tools are rapidly emerging that offer code suggestions and even write entire code.
With a rapidly changing economy, Avangrid Renewables looked to virtual reality to develop a standardized form of immersive training in order to onboard and upskill technicians faster than ever before.
Gracia is a technology pipeline and viewing platform for 6DoF volumetric content, available on Quest 3 and PC VR. Simple stereoscopic 3D photos and videos like Apple's spatial video only offer limited parallax of a view of a scene presented in a rectangle in front of you, and immersive 180° or 360° content like Apple Immersive Video does the same in a hemisphere or sphere.
PERSONAL NOTE: I’ve been meaning to write this blogpost for a while, but my life has been rather hectic lately, and I simply haven’t had time. However, today I am off sick from work with various aches and pains, and my worn-out 60-year-old body is telling me that I need to rest, recharge, and heal a bit, so I decided that today is the day I will finally write this review (that, plus I learned yesterday about the sale!).
If a week is a long time in politics, then ten years is an eternity in the world of technology. I often write about tech trends that will be relevant in the near to mid-term, as these are most likely to be useful to my business clients. But sometimes, it’s interesting to look a bit further ahead. Of course, it’s far harder to guess what will be important in ten years than what will be on the agenda over the next 12 months.

Remote meetings are here to stay - and many are BORING. If you are trying to engage your learners (or any audience), compelling content is critical. But trying to create stimulating content with the same tools you’ve always had is hard, right? Thankfully, wrong! Terrific tools in PowerPoint along with visual assets help you create the kind of dynamic content you need to capture your remote audience’s attention, with functions that allow for interactive sequences and navigation.
Many believe that the climate crisis is humanity’s most pressing issue today. Global warming, rising sea levels and extreme weather events are already impacting lives across the globe, and they are only forecast to get worse. New and emerging AI technology is frequently hailed as a beacon of hope that will provide solutions to challenges we’ve been unable to solve so far.

I believe that just about every business can benefit from AI by using it to create better products and services, drive efficiency in their operations, or improve customer experience. However, not every AI initiative businesses embark on guarantees good results. In fact, according to research by Harvard Business School, as many as 80% of industrial AI projects can fail to generate tangible value.
If you’re a lifelong learner, chances are you’ve taken an online course or two over the years. But the next time you take an online course, you might enjoy a more personalized experience, thanks to generative AI. Because in this age of ChatGPT and other generative AI tools, online course providers are increasingly using generative AI to offer a better, more adaptive experience for online learners.

With 191 country signatories to the Paris Climate Agreement now hard at work in the race to zero carbon by 2050, much of the heavy lifting in ecosystem sustainability falls on the shoulders of the world's densely populated urban centers. This conversation considers how today's AI-enabled simulation media, such as AR/VR, can be effectively applied to accelerate learning, understanding, training, and solutions-modeling to sustainability planning and design.
