Clackamas Fire District has ploughed $50K into a VR training programme for its firefighters and paramedics. The money went into purchasing virtual reality (VR) software created by the Australian company EmergiSim, with headsets costing much less by comparison that are available to buy from Amazon for $199. The online resource for firefighters, FireRescue1, published an article explaining how the software could simulate various high-stress scenarios, such as protests, shootings, and even terroris
IO Interactive and UK-based studio XR Games announced they’re bringing a new version of stealth-action game Hitman 3 exclusively to Meta Quest 3 this summer. Hitman 3 came along with VR support for the original PSVR at launch in 2021, later bringing Agent 47’s most recent exploits to PC VR headsets with the Windows version a few months later.

To avoid awkward and sometimes disastrous learning content, instructional designers must use authentic translation in the right context to get optimal results. For example, even a simple phrase like “got milk” translates to “are you lactating” in Mexico. Can you imagine what a straight translation might do to your course? With over 317 million people in the US and over 6.7 billion potential customers in the world, personalizing training seems logical.
Skydance Interactive, the studio behind The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners franchise, is getting the hype train fueled for its next big single-player VR game, Skydance’s BEHEMOTH, which promises to bring a bevy of immersive melee combat and epic adventuring to all major VR headsets later this year. We haven’t gone hands-on yet, although we got an early look at an extended gameplay session from a vertical slice, which takes you to the first gigantic boss—your first Behemoth of ma
The Quest v66 update "significantly" reduces Quest 3's passthrough distortion and warping, according to Meta. The v66 update also brings an experimental option to use wrist-mounted menu buttons instead of the pinch gestures when using hand tracking, background audio and media controls, the ability to hide apps in your library, and a new sleep mode. As always, keep in mind that Quest system software updates "roll out" gradually, so it may take a few days or even more than a week for your headset

Meta announced its annual Connect developer conference is set to kick off this year on September 25th-26th, which we’re hoping comes with a few key reveals and info drops we’ve definitely been waiting for. There’s no schedule published for now, only a sign-up portal for future updates, which the company says could include “previews of our speakers, sessions and featured tech.” There’s likely set to be an in-person element for a select few, and a bunch of live
Meta's next headset is Quest 3S. Here's everything we've heard about Quest 3S, including how it likely compares to Quest 3 and Quest 2. There's been strong evidence over the past 15 months that Meta is preparing to release a cheaper alternative to Quest 3 to replace Quest 2 in its lineup. The S here is being used in the same sense as Xbox Series S, to mean a cheaper model, not in the same sense Apple used to use for iPhones.
The original Quest headset, launched in 2019, has been on its way out for quite some time. Now it’s getting a final farewell from Beat Saber , as the game’s new OST 7 music pack is the last that will reach the headset. Beat Saber’s newest free music pack, OST 7, is available now on all platforms (though temporarily delayed on PS4).

You can watch Netflix in the web browser on Quest headsets "in the coming days". Previously, the Quest browser showed incompatibility with Netflix when trying to play a movie or TV show from the service. Since 2019, Netflix offered the poorly-reviewed native VR app on the Quest Store instead. The app lacks downloads support and is capped at 480p. With built-in web browser support, though, Netflix on Quest should be viewable in passthrough and while multitasking alongside other windows on the Que
Remote meetings are here to stay - and many are BORING. If you are trying to engage your learners (or any audience), compelling content is critical. Terrific tools in PowerPoint along with visual assets help you create the kind of dynamic content you need to capture your remote audience’s attention, with functions that allow for interactive sequences and navigation.

It's hard to deny Skydance Games' impact on VR gaming. Schell Games is one of the most exciting studios working in the VR space right now. With a diverse portfolio of hits like Among Us VR and I Expect You To Die, I was so excited to see what kind of creative spin they would bring to the horror genre. I'm happy to say that Schell followed through on its reputation with Silent Slayer: Vault of the Vampire with tense and engaging gameplay, even if it can be a bit taxing.

With 191 country signatories to the Paris Climate Agreement now hard at work in the race to zero carbon by 2050, much of the heavy lifting in ecosystem sustainability falls on the shoulders of the world's densely populated urban centers. This conversation considers how today's AI-enabled simulation media, such as AR/VR, can be effectively applied to accelerate learning, understanding, training, and solutions-modeling to sustainability planning and design.

Vision Pro is an impressive headset but it’s not perfect right out of the gate. Luckily, Apple has a great track record of improving products for years through software updates, and Vision Pro isn’t likely to be an exception. But what should the company focus on first? Here’s what I’d like to see. Apple first revealed Vision Pro to the world on June 5th, 2023, at its annual WWDC event.
This week, Microsoft announced significant layoffs accounting for roughly 1,000 positions in its HoloLens and Azure Cloud divisions. This puts into question the firm’s development of HoloLens 2 hardware and Azure “Moonshot” projects that include collaboration with firms like SpaceX to enhance highly complex operations. Following Microsoft’s axing of roughly 10,000 almost a year ago, Microsoft appears to be tightening up its XR and cloud division without hitting its AI tea

Since when has learning and development (L&D) become such a negative experience with its intended learners? Could it be because learners have been conditioned by very poor learning experiences over the past two decades, combined with the kinks of technological innovation? Or is it because learning has typically been designed as a one-size-fits-all solution, despite the fact that humans are not clones?
HTC is offering all Vive XR Elite owners a free Deluxe Pack with four accessories that upgrade the experience of using the headset. Vive XR Elite is HTC's newest standalone headset, launched last year at $1100, and its first targeted to consumers instead of just businesses. XR Elite features the same kind of small early pancake lenses as 2021's Vive Flow, and uses the original generation Snapdragon XR2 chip also used in Quest 2.

For the show, Frore has a number of demonstrations running in a fairly large showroom.
