Meta is now offering a 10% education discount on Quest headsets and Ray-Ban smart glasses for university students and educators in the US. The discount is available to anyone in the US with a.edu email address, and is similar to the 10% discount Apple offers students on most of its products, though notably not Vision Pro. I just watched OpenAI’s announcement about its upcoming o3 and o3-mini reasoning AI models, and they’ve reached an AI general intelligence milestone with this release. The biggest news is that the o3 model took a major leap towards Artificial General Intelligence, or AGI, when it achieved human-level performance on a test where it had to solve new problems it had never encountered before.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has published a Google patent application for a smartglasses design that seeks to reduce the amount of light lost from the microdisplay. The Apple IP news blog Patently Apple , which shared the news, described the innovative smartglasses design as centring around a curved thin see-through lightguide with large eyebox.
