On stage at Connect yesterday, Meta unveiled Orion , an AR glasses prototype that, while impressively slim, isn’t making its way out of the Meta offices anytime soon. Still, Meta CTO and Reality Labs chief Andrew Bosworth says an AR device based on Orion is coming this decade, and will likely shoot for a price point somewhere north of a smartphone.

Now Meta is hoping to bring more ‘spatial computing’ into the fold with the Meta Spatial SDK, which aims to make it easier for Android developers to port and enhance their apps for Quest’s Horizon OS.

Meta Spatial SDK is now available for developers. Until now, building even a simple app for Quest headsets required using a full-fledged game engine like Unity, Unreal, or Godot. These are heavy tools that require importing swathes of assets or reinventing the wheel to achieve simple interfaces and interactions. VR extraction shooter Ghosts of Tabor has earned over $20 million in total revenue. Before moving from App Lab to the Quest Horizon Store earlier this year, developer Combat Waffle Studios and publisher Beyond Frames Entertainment announced that Ghosts of Tabor had earned over $10 million and hit 500k players. Following its relaunch in February, it's now doubled those earnings to surpass $20 million.

Announced today with a brief teaser trailer, Thirdverse revealed this upcoming X8 event collaborates with Contra: Operation Galuga , the latest Contra entry that launched for flatscreen platforms in March. The Meta Horizon Store now accepts 2D Android apps, which could bring more apps and services to the platform. This means developers of existing apps on the Google Play Store or other Android app stores can bring their app to Quest headsets without needing to add any specific support for the technology. These apps can be run alongside other 2D apps and windows in Horizon OS, and even brought up inside immersive apps and games.
