Google and Magic Leap today announced a “strategic technology partnership.” The move shows Google seeking to gain ground to keep up with the likes of Meta, Apple, and others in a race to control the AR headset market. While consume VR headsets have been around for years now, none of the world’s major technology companies have launched consumer-focused AR glasses.

Two anticipated VR games, Behemoth and Alien: Rogue Incursion , showed their first glimpse of gameplay during PlayStation’s State of Play presentation today. Both are set to launch across all major VR platforms later this year. Behemoth First Look at VR Gameplay Kicking things off with Behemoth : this is the latest game from developer Skydance Interactive, the studio behind The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners series.

VirtualAge and Fast Travel Games today launched a new update for sci-fi shooter Guardians Frontline (2023) , which brings a gigantic new enemy type to the co-op and single-player game alongside a number of new features. Called ‘The Queen Update’, starting today players on Quest and SteamVR will get a chance to go face-to-face with a supersize enemy, simply called ‘the Queen’ We’re told her weak points should be targeted for a quick death (head and tail).

Magic Leap has entered a "multi-faceted, strategic technology partnership" with Google. The companies say the partnership will combine Magic Leap's "leadership in optics and manufacturing" with Google's "technology platforms". Google was an initial investor in Magic Leap, leading a $542 million funding round back in 2014. Google CEO Sundar Pichai also joined the Magic Leap board at the time, but he stepped down in 2018, ostensibly due to his schedule being too busy.

In addition to revealing its roadmap and plans concerning its current leading-edge process technologies, TSMC also shared progress of its N2 node as part of its Symposiums 2024. The company's first 2nm-class fabrication node, and predominantly featuring gate-all-around transistors, according to TSMC N2 has almost achieved its target performance and yield goals, which places it on track to enter high-volume manufacturing in the second half of 2025.

Spacetop G1 replaces the screen of traditional laptops with floating virtual screens via built-in AR glasses. It's an upgraded version of the Spacetop Early Access which shipped last year to "hundreds" of early adopters. The startup behind the device, Sightful, says it will upgrade all Early Access owners to the consumer G1. Sightful was founded by ex-Magic Leap executives Tamir Berliner and Tomer Kahan.

I consider the Quest 3 one of the most affordable , high-performance headsets for mixed reality capabilities. It’s a lot cheaper than the competing Apple Vision Pro.

Alien: Rogue Incursion just dropped its first VR gameplay trailer. Previously announced last month with a brief teaser, Alien: Rogue Incursion is a new made-for-VR game in the Alien franchise. Revealed today at PlayStation's latest State of Play presentation, Survios released a first look at PSVR 2 gameplay, showing the protagonist exploring abandoned corridors, scanning for other lifeforms and a brief look at the Xenomorph.

Meta's Horizon Workrooms app just got a major update, and it's a mixed bag. If you're unaware, Workrooms is Meta's collaborative productivity app for Quest headsets. It lets you view your PC monitor inside VR and share your screen with teammates as Meta Avatars in a virtual meeting room. People who don't own a Quest can join via webcam through a web interface or paid Zoom plans.
