HTC announced that its Vive Ultimate Tracker is now compatible with third-party PC VR headsets that support SteamVR. Originally developed for the Vive Focus 3 and Vive XR Elite, Vive Ultimate Tracker is a puck-like device that comes equipped with two cameras, allowing it to track its position without external devices or base stations, supporting both object and full-body tracking.

HoloLens 2 production has ended. Microsoft confirmed to UploadVR that it told its customers and partners now is the last time to buy the device before stock runs out. HoloLens 2 will continue to receive "updates to address critical security issues and software regressions" until 2028. As soon as that year starts, software support for HoloLens 2 will end.

Microsoft announced to enterprise partners last week that it’s discontinuing its latest AR headset, HoloLens 2, and pulling the plug on support updates at the end of 2027, leaving many to question whether the Redmond tech giant is shelving the platform altogether. One such enterprise partner was Jens Lauritsen , Chief Product Officer of the Copenhagen-based XR startup Virsabi, who published the email from Microsoft detailing their plans.

In an effort to reposition the price ladder for its flagship headset, Meta is aiming to get the 128GB model of Quest 3 out the door for good. A new refurbished Quest 3 deal on Amazon is the best we’ve seen yet. Amazon US is currently selling a refurbished Quest 3 (128GB) for $380 and the refurbished Quest 3 (512GB) for $450 through its ‘Renewed Premium’ program.

UK developer XR Games is undergoing a large-scale restructuring with 72 employees facing redundancy. Founded in 2017, the Leeds-based XR Games is best known for its work on last month's Hitman 3 VR: Reloaded , Zombieland: Headshot Fever , and the upcoming Zombie Army VR. Niantic's space for Peridots is expanding on Quest 3 headsets with a planned paid add-on that should arrive next year for Hello, Dot. Niantic launched Hello, Dot in May this year as a free showpiece for Meta's mixed reality tools on Quest 3 headsets, with the app bringing one of the cute little digital creatures into the room with you. Microsoft has removed Windows Mixed Reality from Windows 11. With Windows 11 24H2, the latest major version of Microsoft's PC operating system, you can no longer use a Windows MR headset in any way - not even on Steam. This includes all the Windows MR headsets from Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Samsung, including HP's Reverb G2 , released in 2020.
