‘Aces of Thunder’ is Shaping Up as One of the Best-looking VR-native Flight Sims, Now Coming to PC VR Too

Aces of Thunder , from the studio behind the well-known flight sim War Thunder , is set to launch in Q4 on PSVR 2. Alongside a new trailer, the studio revealed today that the game is also coming to PC VR. From the outset, flight sims in VR have been an obvious choice thanks to their emphasis on immersion. And it’s fortunate that some of the biggest names in flight simulation, like Microsoft Flight Simulator, DCS World, and War Thunder have added support for VR headsets.

Bigscreen Beyond’s Long-awaited Audio Strap to Begin Shipping Next Month

Bigscreen announced that Beyond, its slim form factor PC VR headset, is finally getting its long-awaited Audio Strap starting next month. Bigscreen Beyond initially shipped in late 2023 with promises that an audio headstrap was soon to follow, with the company saying last December that shipping was scheduled to start sometime in March 2024. Netflix VR App For Quest Now Unavailable & No Longer Works

The Netflix app for Quest is now unavailable from the store and no longer works. The VR app featured a cosy cabin environment and was partially developed by John Carmack back in 2015 for the Samsung Gear VR. It was ported to Oculus Go and then the original Oculus Quest, but hadn't seen updates since. Because of how long ago it was developed, it was capped at 480p and didn't support downloads or passthrough.

Google Blocks Set For Open Source Rebirth On Quest, Pico & Steam

A group that helped open source a fork of Google's Tilt Brush is doing the same to 3D modeling platform Blocks. Open Blocks follows Open Brush from the Icosa Foundation as an open source version of Google's abandoned VR art tools. Google had acquired Tilt Brush for 3D drawing while also launching Blocks as a 3D modeling tool for VR headsets. As Google reduced its investment in VR technology, Tilt Brush was open sourced by its creators who saw the move as " immortality " for the work.

Startup Will Provide Breakthrough Battery For "Clear Leader In The Mixed Reality Market"

Enovix says it signed an agreement with "a clear leader in the mixed reality market" to provide a new battery with higher energy density for a future headset. The company's long-in-development battery uses a 100% silicon anode instead of graphite, which should enable higher energy density than the batteries in current headsets. A headset maker could use this to deliver a lighter headset, longer battery life, or a balance of both, and the silicon anode should improve charging speed too.
