Meta this week announced Oculus Publishing Ignition, a “multi-million dollar” fund aimed at newly formed XR studios. The company is offering money for VR and MR prototypes, with the potential for follow-on funding to turn those prototypes into full titles. Seemingly wanting to tap into the unfortunate number of recently laid off game developers, Meta’s new Oculus Publishing Ignition fund is specifically looking for XR studios that were formed on or after April 2023.

WebXR In Safari Now Supports Apple Vision Pro's Gaze-Pinch Input System

Safari on Apple Vision Pro now lets WebXR leverage the headset's default input system. WebXR isn't enabled on Vision Pro by default, but you can turn it on in the advanced settings of Safari. Until now however WebXR developers have only been able to use hand tracking and implement direct touch or wrist-driven interactions, as Vision Pro doesn't include tracked controllers and WebXR doesn't support eye tracking.

Oculus Publishing Ignition: Meta Funding New Teams Building For Quest 3

Meta is aiming to help at least 20 small newly-formed teams rapidly build prototypes for Quest 3. The Ignition program from Oculus Publishing was announced at GDC 2024 "in light of [.] the recent challenges faced by the game development industry and the sweeping impact it has had on platforms, publishers, studios, teams, and individuals." Oculus Publishing was established as Meta's brand for third-party publishing relationships at last year's GDC, confirming 150 titles in the works at the time.
