Fresh off of its announcement of joining the A16Z SPEEDRUN accelerator program, Flat2VR Studios has announced four existing flatscreen games that are getting official ports for all major VR headsets. Flat2VR Studios exists to adapt existing flatscreen games for VR. Today the studio announced the first four titles that are in the works, all planned for release on Quest, PSVR 2, and PC VR.

IO Interactive and UK-based studio XR Games announced back in June that a new version of stealth-action game Hitman 3 was coming to Meta Quest 3. Now the studios have shown off a deeper look at gameplay. Revealed during the VR Games Showcase today, Hitman 3 VR: Reloaded promises to be “[r]ebuilt from the ground up for VR,” coming exclusively to Quest 3 this summer.

Ghosts of Tabor studio Combat Waffle today showed off a closer look at Silent North, the studio’s next VR shooter published in partnership with Beyond Frames Entertainment. Silent North takes multiplayer action to the Swiss Alps, where players will bundle up and hunker down to survive as long as they can in a world overrun by zombies, Combat Waffle says. “Players can team up or go it solo while scavenging for gear and defending against a never-ending supply of hungry corpses.”

One of the most anticipated titles for Meta's VR platform is "on hold indefinitely." This week, enterprise AR technology leader Vuzix Corporation announced its second-quarter results for 2024. The report highlights how Vuzix’s total revenues decreased by a massive 77 percent in Q2 to roughly $1.1 million. Year-on-year, Vuzix’s revenue was approximately $4.7 million. Moreover, Vuzix recorded a $0.3 million overall year-on-year gross loss for Q2 2023.

Quest headsets just got an interesting new capability via the new Meta Quest HDMI Link first-party app. The app lets you view the screen of almost any device via a UVC capture card, a hardware device that takes in HDMI or DisplayPort and outputs a compressed video signal via USB. 0:00 / 0:22 1× Promotional video from Meta. As the deployment of PCIe 5.0 picks up steam in both datacenter and consumer markets, PCI-SIG is not sitting idle, and is already working on getting the ecosystem ready for the updats to the PCIe specifications. Band Space, a VR multiplayer rhythm game, arrives this fall on Quest and SteamVR. Fast Travel Games announced that it's publishing Band Space, an instrument-driven rhythm game from Smartmelon Games, and early access supporters can claim a free upgrade to the full game upon release. Whether jamming out with friends online or getting a session in on your own, Band Space uses VR motion controls to simulate four key instruments: drums, guitar, keyboard and bass.

Slender: The Arrival VR has been delayed until next year. Previously announced in January, Slender: The Arrival VR had been targeting a launch on September 13, 2024. However, publisher Perp Games confirmed the upcoming VR adaptation has now been delayed so they can "invest extra time" into this title. When Western Digital introduced its Ultrastar DC SN861 SSDs earlier this year, the company did not disclose which controller it used for these drives, which made many observers presume that WD was using an in-house controller. But a recent teardown of the drive shows that is not the case; instead, the company is using a controller from Fadu, a South Korean company founded in 2015 that specializes on enterprise-grade turnkey SSD solutions.

The growth in the enterprise SSD (eSSD) market has outpaced that of the client SSD market over the last few years. The requirements of AI servers for both training and inference has been the major impetus in this front. Quest headsets can use a UVC-based capture card and hubs to bring in a low latency HDMI signal from a host of devices including iPads and Steam Decks. We tested the Meta Quest HDMI Link app from App Lab with the Shadowcast 2 capture card. The Anker 6-in-1 USB hub with ethernet and power delivery worked in testing as well as the Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter.
