Beleaguered VR MMO ‘Zenith’ Ceases Development Due to Low User Retention

Ramen VR, the studio behind Zenith: The Last City , announced it’s ceasing development on the VR MMORPG, citing a struggle to retain players. The studio announced the news in a video, linked below, which describes some of the reasons behind the decision: “Zenith has struggled with retaining players since very early on. Even though we’ve had hundreds of thousands of players, the vast majority of them stopped playing Zenith after about a month,” the company says in an FAQ.

Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth gave his thoughts on the idea of giving Quest developers access to the passthrough cameras. While mixed reality headsets like Meta Quest 3 and Apple Vision Pro use cameras to let you see the real world, only the system and certain first-party apps actually get raw access to the cameras. In early 2023 Samsung officially announced it was working on an XR headset, with Google handling the system software via a new variant of Android, now known to be called Android XR, and Qualcomm providing the chipset, which it later announced as Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 , a higher-end variant of the base XR2 Gen 2 used in Meta Quest 3.
