Thirdverse and inXile Entertainment today announced that Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds , the upcoming team-based multiplayer shooter, is going into open beta starting next week. You could also get it for free when it launches. The game’s open beta runs from September 28th until October 19th, available for download through Steam and the Oculus Store for PC VR headsets.

Finnish XR headset manufacturer Varjo does things differently. They appeared on the scene with the VR-1 headset in 2018 promising human eye resolution. Their XR-1 can switch back-and-forth between mixed reality and virtual reality. The hefty price tag on Varjo headsets essentially limit it to serious industry, but use cases go to the moon and back. The Oculus Quest 2 VR headset was leaked in a since removed promotional video uploaded to a marketing hub run by parent company Facebook. The new HMD will be powered by Qualcomm’s XR specific Snapdragon XR2 platform, unlike the general purpose Snapdragon 835 that powered the original Quest. The new headset adds 2 additional gigs of RAM for a total of 6 gigs of RAM.
It’s come to light that Lemnis Technologies, a startup creating varifocal optics for use in VR headsets, has reportedly been absorbed by Facebook in an ‘acqui-hiring’ move.
