A few weeks ago I had the enormous pleasure of speaking with Mary Matheson , an award-winning director of traditional and VR movies, and talk with her for around half an hour all about storytelling in VR. She told me why she thinks that 360 movies are still relevant, what are the differences between shooting a movie for VR or for a flat display, she suggested me some tools for creating VR experiences and even talked about her experience in being a teacher in the storytelling masterclass organize

Having not had a chance to see Mojo Vision’s latest smart contact lens for myself until recently, I’ll admit that I expected the company was still years away from having a working contact lens with more than just a simple notification light or a handful of static pixels. Upon looking through the company’s latest prototype I was impressed to see a much more capable prototype than I had expected.

To avoid awkward and sometimes disastrous learning content, instructional designers must use authentic translation in the right context to get optimal results. For example, even a simple phrase like “got milk” translates to “are you lactating” in Mexico. Can you imagine what a straight translation might do to your course? With over 317 million people in the US and over 6.7 billion potential customers in the world, personalizing training seems logical.

Last week, we were able to discover more info about the upcoming Pico headset thanks to the FCC filings of the “Pico 4” spotted by Janko Roettgers. Since I’m pretty interested in what Pico is doing, when I reported the news on my weekly roundup, I asked for any one of you in the community to send me whatever info you could have about it.
“ Big Brother” is watching. According to researchers at ReasonLabs, a leading cyber security company, hackers have developed a new form of VR malware for Android-based headsets like the Meta Quest that lets them record your headset screen. The “Big Brother” attack vector works by infecting unsuspecting PCs and lying dormant in the system waiting for a Developer Mode-enabled device to connect, at which point the program opens a TCP port.

In the modern marketplace, manufacturing is deemed to be the most complex industry. As the pace of change accelerates, it demands the adoption of highly sophisticated, novel digital technologies. Right now, the word metaverse is being tossed around like the word internet back in the 1990s. Although it may sound like a hypothetical concept, the metaverse is a souped-up version of augmented reality, virtual reality, and mixed reality.

There's a common misperception that Meta wants to operate an insular metaverse that it wholly owns. We break down the business case for its more strategic play to reside on, and feed off, a much larger open metaverse. It's all about network effect. This post appeared first on AR Insider.
The hype for the Apple visor is very high, and everyone is waiting for it as a kid waits for Christmas. Poised to arrive around January 2023, it is considered by many the savior of XR, the hardware that will show the real possibilities of immersive realities and make finally VR mainstream. If you’ve played any video games at all – particularly open-world RPGs – you know that getting NPCs right can be hard. You might also have heard the theory that the metaverse will be too big to be entirely populated by human agents. So, if we’re going to have a metaverse for games, shopping, business, etc., we need something better. Inworld AI is working on it.
In April, real-time 3D (RT3D) engine developers Epic Games and NVIDIA debuted easy-to-use photogrammetry tools to streamline the creation of RT3D assets. The companies are designing solutions that enable developers to create accurate digital twins for augmented, virtual, and mixed reality (AR/VR/MR) immersive experiences as well as other industries.

After a long time with my lovely Unity 2019.4 LTS, I have decided it was time to switch to something new, not to miss the new features that Unity has implemented these years. I have so started using Unity 2021.3 LTS (2021.3.5 to be exact) and experimenting with it. One of the new features offered by the new Unity is the ability of building OpenXR applications , and I wanted absolutely to test it!
Nintendo’s original VR headset is still receiving new games thanks to an active community of indie developers. In 1995, Nintendo launched the Virtual Boy, an at-home “VR” device featuring stereoscopic 3D graphics, a red monochrome display, and 22 questionable games; I’m looking at you Waterworld. . Since when has learning and development (L&D) become such a negative experience with its intended learners? Could it be because learners have been conditioned by very poor learning experiences over the past two decades, combined with the kinks of technological innovation? Or is it because learning has typically been designed as a one-size-fits-all solution, despite the fact that humans are not clones?

There is one last experience I want to tell you about from my trip to AWE USA a few months ago: the time I visited XCOM Labs to try its remote rendering solution! XCOM Labs. A few friends of mine suggested I visit the booth of XCOM Labs , so I booked a meeting to try their solution in one of their private rooms. As soon as I arrived, an employee made me wear a HoloLens and walk around to see a complete baseball stadium scene rendered around me via servers that were there in the room with me.
