To avoid awkward and sometimes disastrous learning content, instructional designers must use authentic translation in the right context to get optimal results. For example, even a simple phrase like “got milk” translates to “are you lactating” in Mexico. Can you imagine what a straight translation might do to your course? With over 317 million people in the US and over 6.7 billion potential customers in the world, personalizing training seems logical.
In December 2020, I had a nice chat about the Open AR Cloud with two amazing professionals that are working with it. Unluckily, that was a very complicated period for me (e.g. I was working to deliver the WTTOS concert with Jean-Michel Jarre ) and I forgot about publishing it. Thanks to an e-mail from Suzan Oslin, that is organizing these days a workshop at IEEE VR about the Open AR Cloud (more info here , if you are interested), I have remembered again about it, and so I’m publishing it n
We live in an age of enormous data creation. The amount of global data generated per year has increased by more than 30x over the past 10 years, and it is projected to more than quadruple over the next five. The problem for humans is no longer access to data — it’s how to possibly process the immense amount of data that is now at our fingertips.

Turn boring 2D floor plans into fully immersive 3D walkthroughs with the first Quest app designed specifically for architects. When it comes to planning and design, a proper 2D floorplan can provide you with a bounty of critical information. Translating those measurements into a 3D format, however, can often be a difficult and time-consuming process.

Augmented reality is bringing positive change beyond the world of gaming and entertainment. From hospitals and medical facilities to corporate facilities, it is being used in a myriad of ways to simplify tasks and improve efficiency. Resonai , an XR and AI company, recently released its The State of Augmented Reality in Facilities Management: 2021 report.
I t’s clear that mobile AR is where the scale is today, given 3 billion global smartphones. As for the portion that’s AR-compatible, the common industry rally cry is that there are 1 billion+ AR-enabled smartphones. That figure applies to ARkit and ARCore-compatible smartphones. But if you pan back to all platforms, such as Snapchat’s Lens Studio and Facebook’s Spark AR, the AR-ready universe is larger (figures below).

Today I host a new article of the amazing Rob Cole, passionate maker and ergonomics expert from Immersion Mechanics , already the author of amazing posts on this blog, especially about the ergonomics of the Valve Index. Some weeks ago, he has bought a Tundra HDK , which is basically a Hardware Development Kit to create your objects that can be tracked by a SteamVR system and has played around with it for a while.
The progression of virtual reality and augmented reality technology has been fascinating to chart. On one hand, VR and AR have been around for years without truly cracking mainstream appeal, and there are still plenty of people who’ve never used VR headsets. On the other hand, awareness of what these options bring to the table has steadily increased, and the cost of entry has gone down significantly.
Remote meetings are here to stay - and many are BORING. If you are trying to engage your learners (or any audience), compelling content is critical. But trying to create stimulating content with the same tools you’ve always had is hard, right? Thankfully, wrong! Terrific tools in PowerPoint along with visual assets help you create the kind of dynamic content you need to capture your remote audience’s attention, with functions that allow for interactive sequences and navigation.
A s you likely know, one of AR’s foundational principles is to fuse the digital and physical. The real world is a key part of that formula….and real-world relevance is often defined by location. That same relevance and scarcity are what drive real estate value….location, location, location. Synthesizing these factors, one of AR’s battlegrounds will be in augmenting the world in location-relevant ways.
When Microsoft unveiled Mesh a couple of weeks ago, the move revealed a major part of Microsoft's next steps toward dominating the augmented reality space, particularly with regard to enterprise customers. But aside from the general details contained in the announcement, what really got some insiders excited was the demo video (see below) accompanying the launch of Mesh.

Since when has learning and development (L&D) become such a negative experience with its intended learners? Could it be because learners have been conditioned by very poor learning experiences over the past two decades, combined with the kinks of technological innovation? Or is it because learning has typically been designed as a one-size-fits-all solution, despite the fact that humans are not clones?
I’m writing this roundup of news with a huge headache and a real will to sleep, so forgive me if there are some errors. It’s because tomorrow the SXSW 2021 starts and together with VRrOOm we have created the virtual spaces for it on VRChat! We feel honored, amazed, but also… a bit tired (like Forrest Gump would say). But I promise you that visually it will be amazing, and there you will also be able to find some nice easter eggs!
In the early 1980s, no one could have predicted how the Internet would eventually come to rule our lives. No one could have guessed the ways it would revolutionize the world around us, from ordering food, to streaming videos. We went through what is called a tech cycle. Multiple technologies combined to fundamentally change the way people and organizations go about their lives.
