Some days ago, the popular opensource 3D modeling software Blender has launched a new VR view tool to let you see your 3D scene in VR! You could already use Blender in XR with the MARUI plugin, but here we’re talking about the official support by the Blender Foundation , that comes with version 2.83. All the 3D Artists’ community got hyped about this because it is very cool.

Standalone technology is leading the way for a brand new wave of location-based VR. We’re not even half way through 2020 and so far this year is shaping up to be a big one for standalone location-based VR thanks to the Oculus Quest. Experiences such as MissionX , Triton VR , and Cyberaction are leading a new genre of arena-scale VR experiences which require players to physically move throughout their play spaces.

WebXR is a technology with enormous potential, but at the moment it offers far worse tools to develop for it than standalone VR , where we all use Unity and Unreal Engine. Mozilla, that is doing a lot for the immersive web , has so decided to develop a WebXR exporter for Unity , to let all Unity developers create WebXR experiences with the tool they already know well.

A new partnership will see the delivery of VR headsets to senior care facilities across all 50 states. According to the CDC (Center for Disease Control), older adults with preexisting medical conditions are prone to more serious complications as a result of the COVID-19 virus. It’s for this reason senior care facilities across the US have begun limiting access to only essential medical personnel, leaving many seniors cut off from friends and family.

Today I was reading Upload VR, and I’ve found a very interesting article by David Heaney stating that now it is possible to use your real environment as your Oculus Quest Home environment. I immediately got excited, because this meant that the Oculus Quest has now some augmented reality functionalities! I tried this new feature, and I’ve also prepared for you a tutorial to explain to you how to activate it and some of its possible uses!
