Earlier this morning Facebook confirmed in an official Oculus blog post that, beginning October 2020, those using an Oculus VR headset for the first time will need to log in to their devices with an official Facebook account for full functionality.

As Oculus becomes increasingly merged with parent company Facebook, new users will soon be required to sign into their headset with a Facebook account. Existing users will be able to use their separate Oculus accounts until the end of 2022, after which “full functionality will require a Facebook account.” Facebook says the changes are being made to make it easier for users to find and play with friends in VR and to enhance moderation.
Oculus announced that Facebook accounts will be required for all Oculus devices in the future. There’ll be two waves of requirement, starting this year for NEW users – all will need to work with a Facebook account right out the gate, starting in October.
