Varjo, the high-end XR headset creator, today announced the release of a new smartphone-based 3D scanning service for enterprise that promises to let users quickly build photorealistic environments and explore them in both VR and on traditional screens. Called Teleport , the paid app allows users to capture and recreate real-world locations, something the Finland-based company says takes just 5–10 minutes, which is notably faster than traditional photogrammetry methods.

Meta usually launches its newest headsets toward the end of the year, and that usually means the headset itself doesn’t go on sale until the next holiday. But this year is an exception, at least for Amazon which is offering up an impressive Black Friday sale for Quest 3S. Quest 3S, Meta’s newest headset, launched barely a month-and-a-half ago.

PICO has announced support for OpenXR 1.1, which Khronos Groups believes can reduce fragmentation and simplify advanced XR application development. Khronos Group is a non-profit consortium powering royalty-free interoperability for VR, AR, ML, 3D graphics, and other technologies. Open XR 1.1 has already been made available on PICO 4 Ultra with OS 5.12.0.

Models of Valve Deckard's 'Roy' controllers have been discovered in SteamVR driver files, revealing their design and inputs. Code references to Valve 'Roy' controllers were first discovered earlier this month by XR enthusiast Brad Lynch's Discord group of SteamVR dataminers. This code revealed that the controllers would include bumpers and a D-pad to be able to act as a gamepad for flatscreen gaming.

VRChat plans to offer age verification to its adult users starting with certain early access groups. VRChat explained the plan to partner with an organization called Persona to externally verify age with a government ID as well as a phone or computer with a camera. The feature will be used to "gate access to instances that were created with the 'Age Verification' option enabled" and won't be required to use VRChat overall.

Vision Pro is an incredible headset in many ways, but its most obvious weak point (after the pricetag) is comfort. Apple’s obsession with aesthetics made a headset that’s striking for those looking at it, but less comfortable than it could be for those actually using it. Luckily, fixing this flaw is quite simple. Many critiques of Vision Pro’s comfort attribute the issue to the headset’s weight.
