YouTube just launched a virtual reality app for Steam, making it available to HTC Vive users. That’s good news, except that many of those users are reporting some pretty serious bugs, some of them so problematic that the app repeatedly crashes, making it unusable. This isn’t the first iteration of YouTube designed for virtual reality headsets.

It’s been a long while coming, but Google has finally launched a YouTube VR app on PC. The app is now available on Steam, officially for the Vive (but also functional with Rift and Windows VR headsets). Google expects YouTube VR to remain in Early Access through 2018 as they continue to develop it based on feedback. As one of the largest video content libraries on the planet, demand for being able to watch YouTube content in a VR headset has been understandably strong.

It is being live streamed on YouTube. From 7 to 8 a.m., Pacific time, the developers will discuss the latest 0.9 release of OpenSim. Bigscreen, the social VR app that lets you mirror your monitor in virtual reality, is about to release one of its biggest updates yet. Starting today, select Bigscreen users will have access to what the company calls ‘Big Rooms’, a space that lets a room’s creator broadcast whatever they want to “dozens” of users, essentially creating a giant viewing party.

Several brand new VR experiences got announced for PSVR at PSX 2017, including The Last Guardian VR demo, Wipeout VR, Firewall Zero Hour and Jupiter and Mars. There were also a bunch of VR announcements made for PSVR ports of already released games including Rick And Morty VR. Here is a video list of all the VR content covered during PSX 2017. The Last Guardian VR demo is available for FREE on December 12th in EU and US.

OpenSim hosting company Dreamland Metaverse received the highest scores for performance, support, stability and its user interface in this year’s hosting providers survey for the fourth year in a row, followed by Zetamex Network , DigiWorldz and 3DLES. There were 36 responses total to this year’s hosting survey, which asks grid owners about their hosting providers.

The Mozilla Foundation, the non-profit organization behind Mozilla Firefox web browser, just made their experimental WebXR Viewer app available for download on iOS devices , letting developers quickly experiment with web-based AR built with web technologies and ARKit. PSVR fans can finally get riggity riggity wrecked when Virtual Rick-Ality finally gets a Playstation VR release sometime in 2018 The game is a great fan service and I consider it a real work of heart. Developers Owlchemy Labs originally began in the mobile and PC game space back in 2010. The team created the highly entertaining and successful VR game Job Simulator, which launched as a day-one launch title on HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and PSVR with motion controllers.

Ready Player One , the 2011 novel by Ernest Cline, is getting turned into a movie by none other than Steven Spielberg. As the movie’s March 2018 release date approaches, the first full trailer debuted today. Cline has also confirmed work on a sequel to the novel. Ready Player One follows the story of Wade Watts, an orphan whose life is centered around a virtual reality metaverse called Oasis.

A University of Toronto graduate student is seemingly the first to utilize virtual reality in helping to present research findings during a biochemistry research lecture. PhD student Aidin Balo and his PhD supervisor Professor Oliver Ernst delivered a lecture to 200 people in 2016 at a conference in Berlin, which had the audience use cardboard-based tools in conjunction with their smartphones to immerse themselves in a VR experience.

The game has remained in Early Access on SteamVR, Viveport, and Oculus stores for almost a year, but no release window for PSVR has been confirmed.
